AIBU, which stands for 'Am I Being Unreasonable', is the perfect platform for sharing your thoughts and opinions! So, for today's AIBU discussion, we have this story from Reddit/DescriptionTimely616:

Am I being unreasonable for refusing to sell the expensive clothes my friend gave me?

'My husband wants me to sell designer clothes my well-off friend gave me. The clothes total $3,000, with two of the articles costing $1,000 and $1,500. The price tags were left on the articles. It's an extremely fancy brand I've only seen on TV (Armani). I could never afford these articles of clothing, and I was really excited to style them. I got special bags for them to stay in. I would (could) never purchase these.'

'My husband thinks I should sell them and that they'd help us afford a new couch. The idea of a few pieces of fabric being worth a couch is insane to me, and I get why he wants to sell it, but I don't want to. He's upset and saying I'm putting this fabric before our family's comfort. I think I'd offend my friend if I returned them and I also don't want to.'

About 37 years a go I bought my lady friend a beautiful rabbit fur jacket from Cornelius Furs in Burwood, a Sydney suburb for interstaters. I think that she sold it off within a couple of weeks I gave it to her. A very ungreatful BITCH.

Anyway, I certainly received my monies worth out of her in other favoured ways, especially as far as I was concerned.

No way. How very nice to have such expensive clothes. You will just love wearing them. You will feel so good. He is being MEAN, tell him if he wants a new couch to go earn the money & buy one. Do not give in to him. It would be just awful to go & sell something a friend has given you. She would wonder why you are not wearing them. He is the selfish one.

Like everyone else I agree that you should keep them and enjoy wearing them - particularly when you go out with your husband!!! Your friend must be just lovely to give you something so wonderful. I love the comment as to what is he giving up - his golf clubs. Yeah, what is he going to contribute towards the cost of a new couch? No - enjoy your lovely clothes.
