Major supermarkets have announced their official trading hours for this year's Easter long weekend.

If you're looking to do a last-minute shop or are planning to stock up on some supplies for the long weekend, we advise you to do your grocery shopping as early as possible as many supermarkets are shut or have restricted hours over the public holidays.

Woolworths released the general trading hours for its stores in each state. However, individual operating hours may be subject to store opening and closing hours. The retailer encourages shoppers to visit its website to check the exact opening hours of their local stores.

A spokesperson confirmed the official trading hours of IGA for the Easter long weekend. Credit: AAP,​

An IGA spokesperson has confirmed that some stores are going to be in operation during the entire Easter long weekend.

“IGA stores are independent, family-owned businesses so store opening hours do vary," the spokesperson said.

“Some stores will be open across the entire Easter long weekend, so please check with your local store or online.”

Insanity reigns every Easter & Christmas so I always avoid going near shops just before them! But! It's always puzzled me why - with so many people buying up big 'for their visitors' - that there aren't places where no shopping happens?
