$5 Kmart find is the secret to opening tough jars like a pro

Arthritis, weak grip strength, and other dexterity-related issues can make it incredibly difficult to open jars or carry out other household tasks.
But thanks to one woman’s ingenuity, a clever solution to this tricky issue has been found!
The woman shared her brilliant idea in a popular social media group dedicated to Kmart DIY hacks and décor.
The woman revealed that she has difficulty opening jars, due to arthritis in her hands.
‘With my arthritis hands, I’ve lost the strength to open up jars,’ the woman said in her post.
‘I misplaced my old “jar opener” and have been struggling,’ she added.
However, she found the ‘perfect’ solution to her struggles in the form of a drawer liner, specifically, the $5 multi-purpose liner from Kmart.
The woman attached a photo of her multi-purpose liner – which she found in the kitchen section – and explained that she cuts it up into smaller pieces and puts those over the top of jars so she can open them with ease.
She also shared that she cut them up into 32 pieces for her school’s Mother’s Day stall and labelled the 12 cm squares as ‘jar openers’.
Other social media users quickly praised the woman’s brilliant idea and took to the comments section to share their own ‘hacks’.
‘What a great idea! I used to have a Tupperware jar opener but it perished and I struggled to find a replacement. I’ve got some of this in the cupboard and I’m going to cut it up,’ one declared.
Someone added: ‘Yes! I have this exact thing in my kitchen.’ The same person added that the best part about this ‘hack’ is that you can throw them in the wash together with your towels to clean them when they get dirty.
‘They’re good to go all over again!’ They continued.
Another said she had a ‘square of the product’ in her utensils drawer because it helps her open difficult jars. While one claimed they have something similar, but that she ‘crochets the edges to make them look pretty’.
Others shared their own hacks for opening difficult lids.
‘I just use rubber gloves,’ one wrote. While another shared they open stubborn lids with a teaspoon.
‘Pour hot water on and around the lid – it makes it a lot easier to open,’ a third commented.
Many shoppers turn to Kmart for their DIY projects. Just like this woman who gave her old glass jars a makeover, and made it the ‘perfect’ personalised gift for anyone who is into cooking! You can read more about that here.
