1960s Revolution​

The 1960s was a huge social change, a cultural revolution, and the rise of the counterculture movement. At the forefront of this movement were the hippies, a group of young individuals who rejected societal norms and embraced peace, love, and freedom. Their style was a reflection of their ideologies, and hairstyles played a significant role in their self-expression

I remember being 7 and seeing my aunt the hippy and and her many hippy long haired friends sitting around our back yard.
I also remember my grandfather saying they were a bunch of Sheila's and all needed a haircut.

The 60s not only changed the way we dressed but the way we thought and behaved . It gave us a voice !!

Nearly every person I knew (of the “younger generation”), had long hair. With some females, even the armpits! I never went there. Just long hair on my head.

My husband wasn't a hippy but he did stay in a hippy commune up north for a week when he was 16 ( he ran away from home)

He had long hair and a chin beard when I met him. Cut his hair at one stage and since retiring due to illness has regrown his hair and ties it in a pony tail

My two daughters used to call cousin It, as my hair reached my waist and my beard was middle chest?

I was a child of the 60's. Really great time, with the music and I loved guys with long hair. I have been with my partner for 25 years and he shaves his hair lol. I was 14 when the summer of love , 1967, happened, and I can recall going into the city, Adelaide, to the east parklands where live bands were playing, and we all walked around with flowers in our hair. I always wore indian clothes especially long skirts.

The longest my hair got was shoulder length. Some schoolmates had hair long enough that they could tuck it into the back of their school pants!

In a fir of pique their mother burnt all my photos all the ones I had of all the ships I'd sailed other photos everyone of them except for the I took of the youngest. She wrote me on her filthiest birthday and she the girls were asking about me I wrote them both and let them know my address unfortunately I had to them the info through her, didn't hear so guess they never got it, the girls would be in their forties now with who knows grand kids? I don't know their married names so thats out.

So terribly sad for your daughters and yourself to have been cut off, particularly since the girls were asking about you. Who knows what their mother may have told them.

Nothing good that's for sure, I don't I'll saying what I really think plus my wife nowgets annoyed with me if I make any mention, quite rightly so in im estimation.

We were the same fortunately I got them interested in rope work which they used to love, started off with simple ties and progressed but when they could do them blindfolded. I hope they never progressed to putting a ball bearing in a Turks head.
