We can all agree that a good drop of wine is one of life's greatest pleasures, and there's nothing quite like finding a new favourite tipple – especially when it's affordably priced.
So imagine our delight when we found out that a young Australian winemaker just took home a major prize at a prestigious wine award ceremony for her $14.99 shiraz!
You read that right, folks! For just $14.99 you can get your hands on one of the best wines available in the market.
At this year's Royal Adelaide Wine Show, Brenda Wentzel's Bare Bones Great Western Shiraz 2021, won the trophy for the 2020 best vintage and younger shiraz category with a score of 95 out of 100.

At the young age of 29, Brenda's career in the wine industry has spanned more than a decade. ast year she was able to produce her first vintage under the Bare Bones label in South Australia's Great Western region.
That very same wine also managed to beat out over 200 other drops after a panel of experienced judges, who assessed the wines over four days in a climate-controlled location maintained at a constant 21 degrees, named it as the best in its category.
'The Great Western is one of my favourite wine regions in Australia, and so is shiraz, so this is a really special award to win,' Brenda said of the award.
Brenda began working with Pinnacle Drinks at their Dorrien Estate winery in the Barossa Valley in 2011.
She then went on to become a lab technician in 2012. However, her love for wine brought her back to work for Pinnacle Drinks in 2017 before finishing her degree at Charles Sturt University's wine science department in 2021.

The award-winning Great Western Shiraz 2021 was developed by Brenda and her colleagues after they took over the Great Western and Heathcote portfolios of Pinnacle Drinks.
She remarked: 'Our growers are always providing us with excellent fruit, and everyone across our winemaking, cellar and lab teams are constantly supporting, guiding and mentoring me.'
The $14.99 Bare Bones Shiraz offers undertones of spice, dark cherry, fruit, and plum flavours, as well as velvety tannins to finish.
Shiraz from the Great Western region, according to Brenda, is 'elegant, generous and refined'.
The winemaker explained: 'The region sits right on the Great Dividing Range and is slightly elevated, allowing for hot afternoons and long, cool nights.'
'The wines display a lovely lifted black pepper, spice and liquorice character - some very exciting wines coming from the region, I just love it.'
For those who are curious about other budget-friendly winners of the other categories, here is the list of the top drops that were honoured at the Royal Adelaide Wine Show:
