“I wouldn't buy them”: Coles customer slams supermarket giant for selling blackberries ‘on sale’ for $11.11

A Coles customer has slammed the supermarket after he spotted the supermarket's 'special sale' on blackberries.

Brisbane shopper Malcolm shared a photo of the berries in the sales portion of the fruit aisle on Facebook on Monday evening.

Malcolm claimed that the supermarket was selling them for $11.11 a punnet 'on special', criticising Coles as the promo did not align with their 'prices are down' catchcry.

The shopper sarcastically wrote: 'These blackberries are a steal at this price! Prices are down down at Coles.'

It must be noted that the Driscoll's brand of blackberries — the same item that Malcolm posted — was being sold at the supermarket's website for only $3.50 a punnet.

Facebook users reacted to the post, with many voicing their criticisms.

One user wrote: 'They must have some super good additives in them.'

'Someone pays attention to the job,' added another.

A third wrote: 'I wouldn't buy them at that [price]. I'd get frozen.'

Coles responds

A Coles spokesperson confirmed that the incident was more than likely a signage error, suggesting that the customer may have taken the photo while team members were setting up the display.

The spokesperson noted that the black signs that are displayed in each store have a default price of $11.11 on them.

I would be wondering too. I know blackberries are dear but not that dear. Maybe do the price before displaying them.

I remember picking Black Berries when I was a kid, and they were growing wild, not far from where I lived... and they were Free, not only that, they were also a noxious weed on the Governments list of weeds.. Luckily the local council didn't spray them before I ate them.... they were growing wild in a lot of places, Back Then..
