‘Unconventional’ way of eating meat pie horrifies Aussies: ‘I’m calling the police’

Ah, the great Aussie meat pie.

It's one of the staples of the country's diet, and something all of us have probably eaten in our lifetime.

It's a simple snack and can be enjoyed as you'd expect: either bake it from scratch, or separate the pie from the packet, heat it in the oven or microwave, and then dig right in!

Given how easy it is to eat well-made meat pies, it's unlikely that we would think to change up the process in any way.

But one meat pie lover has shocked thousands of Australians with the unconventional way they eat the national snack—and it's caused quite an uproar.

The viral confession was shared on social media last Friday, 27 October, alongside a series of images that changed how Aussies thought about eating the beloved dish..

The images showed the diner placing two meat pies aside white rice on a plate.

Meat pies and rice? Odd—but that’s not all. Atop the two meat pie pieces, tomato sauce and a slice of cheese was placed.

The next image showed that the diner used a knife and fork to cut the pies before mixing them with the rice.

The third image featured a mix of meat pies, cheese, tomato sauce, and rice in a heap on the plate, making for an admittedly unsightly mix.

The last image showed the remains of the meal on the white plate, which was really just leftover sauce.

The post was met with a strong reaction. It didn't take long for it to rack up thousands of comments from disgusted, angry, and even nauseated Aussies.

‘I think this is one of the most unhinged posts I’ve ever seen,’ one person said.

Others slammed the act as 'horrific, unnatural, and wrong’, discouraging people from ever trying it themselves and even urging them to ‘hand in their citizenship at the nearest embassy’.

‘I’m calling the police,’ one commented.

‘Are you deliberately trying to provoke an attack? Because this feels like you are. This feels like the wrongest of wrongs,’ another said.

However, even when the meat pie, cheese, and rice combination looked ‘like a plate of dog vomit,’ one person said that ‘started today thinking there was no wrong way to eat a pie.’

Eat it how you like it, but if you try to shove such ridiculous ideas down an Aussie's throat, be prepared for an Australian reply.

Oh for F's sake!!!!! This is DISPICABLE!!!!
Why??? Why eat pies like that?? You gotta be f-ing kidding me! Where did this person come from? A cave? Outer space? To posh to eat pie as pie lot? Surely it's not this country! Here we eat a pie by picking it up and eating it till it's gone - sides are only allowed if it is hot chips and then NO UTENSILS USED. Sauce is good if you want too. But not like whoever came up with THAT rice mix. DISGRACEFUL.

I quite often put cheese on top of my meat pie along with Worcestershire Sauce, nothing wrong with it.
Have watched many elderly people at a local eatery use a knife & fork to consume their meat pie. Each to their own.
BUT with rice.....yeah no I'm out.

I eat a pie with cutlery when it’s smothered in peas and gravy and mash. Plain pie hands of course.😁and no sauce I hate tom sauce.

We'll cross yourself, cross your legs, cross the room, say 3 Hail Mary's and lock up your kids, this spells ruin to the civilised world. Having said all that I might actually try that with some soy sauce 😉
Pies nice with soy sauce and Woossie sauce also and oyster sauce my preferences over tom sauce, maybe that’s just me😋😋

Personally, if I use it all I can taste is tomato sauce, I much prefer to cut the top off and put a pat of butter in with the meat, I find that not only can i taste the filling but find it enhances the flavour so much so that I've had a few Aussie converts over the years. Even with fried battered fish I've had few converts with sweet mustard sauce instead of tomato, which along sometimes a change with pickled onion vinegar If the chippie has it. All my [pickled onion vinegar into my shelled pickled eggs, if you use Malt vinegar then leave the shell on as once the egg is pickled the shell is edible. At the moment I'm trying to source some unshelled walnuts for pickling. Any sensible idea or suggestion is welcome all others will be treated with contempt they deserve. 😊😊✌✌ Always remember don't knock it until you try it, you may be pleasantly surprised.

I got a bag of beautiful walnuts from woollies if that’s any help for my cookies. They were big fat and delicious. Unshelled of course.😁 And I love hot English mustard on most things. Yum😋

It could be worse. I saw a couple of diners at my local club eating pizza with knives and forks. I almost fainted at this outrage!

Thanks for replying however I'm looking, for the Walnuts in both the outer shell as well as the inner shell? Unless there's a grower here in Aust, I may be pushing the proverbial uphill.
