The great retirement gap: Why do women continue to get such a raw deal?

It makes me wonder how the young of today would cope doing what we did to make do and get ahead in life. We had to just get on and do the best we could and I am proud of where I am today even though I have just had another kick in the guts and moving to a new home down sizing away from...

Family donates $1.7 million to transform dementia care at aged care facility

I agree with Zuki but it is still a wonderful gesture of the Mangle family and that particular home and residents are very fortunate as will future residents be. Unfortunately it is often only when these types of gifts are given are the greatest benefits shown. As we all know all aged care are...

Finally! An end to government paperwork limbo: Labor’s bold move to stop you filling out the same forms over and over

When I first got my age pension I also had to apply for the NZ super which is taken off dollar for dollar from the Australian pension. When I got my letter from NZ I rang Centrelink to inform them and sent a copy of the letter. All arrears got paid to Centrelink but each time I got a monthly...

Finally! An end to government paperwork limbo: Labor’s bold move to stop you filling out the same forms over and over

It should have happened years ago and it does make you wonder why common sense takes so long to become a reality. I guess better late than never.

$17.5 for a café bacon and egg roll—who’s buying this?

I would certainly find somewhere else. I pay $6,50 for two beautiful slices of fruit toast in Perth on the odd occasion I have brekkie with my coffee. If people didn't pay it they would have to do something about. Their prices are exhorbitant across the board.

Your weekly shop just got greener: What expanded plastic bag ban means for your wallet and routine

I never buy pre-packaged fruit and veg, one because there is only me and I don't want to waste any but you can't see what you are buying and years ago there was always one or two rubbish ones in there. I reuse the bags I get so find many uses for them. They may eventually end up at the tip but...

The stage mourns a 'Phantom'—a star’s light dimmed too soon

Definitely way too young and after dedicating himself to caring for and losing his wife like that, he succumbs to the beastly disease that is cancer. Tragic and my condolences to his family and friends.

This part of Oz plans to stock life-saving overdose medication in Australian first

Stuff the stigma, if it saves lives then it's woth it. Roll it out and let's see how it goes. All well and good if it is not needed.

Everyday budgets shrink as local services struggle to keep up

The vote should go out to ratepayers as to what funding gets the go ahead for the year or the three years etc and if we don't vote that's on us. But the most votes get the go ahead. After all it's our money and our community and perhaps we should really pay more attention.

From bamboo undies to gaming consoles: The ATO’s most outrageous tax deduction denials

Fortunately I do not have to lodge tax returns and have not done so for about 15 years now and do not intend to start now.

Are passengers really getting ruder on trains and buses? Passengers say so

I agree with all of the above. Discipline and respect for yourself and others is very rare these days and needs to be a focus both at primary school and in the home if our children are going to have a chance.

Yulella Aboriginal Corporation's 'Vision' shop combats cost of remote living

It shows what can be done by common sense community minded people and I take it no politicians. More areas could take this on board, it's obviously not rocket science.

She squeezed her car beside a badly parked vehicle—petty justice or over the line?

Some people park like that when there is no cars around, they just have no idea how to park and they are not necessarily a big vehicle. Just an ignorant driver and far too many of them around these days in too much of a hurry to do things properly.

Are you next? Controversial rent advice sparks outrage as rising rents hit hard across cities

With interest rates coming down there should be no reason for rent to go up. It has to stop as it simply is not sustainable and that is all there is to it. No one can keep affording to pay more and more of their income and still be able to afford to live with everything else going up as well...

Lucky escape as retiree outsmarts $15,000 remote access scammers but others may not

That is actually very sad that she continues to be taken in that way and nobody can convince her she is being taken for a ride. Someone on the other end is getting very easy money. She will be devastated when she finally realises.

Firefighters warn: These common household items are ‘ticking time bombs’

And you only need to live next door to a place that has been careless with one of these batteries and you could lose everything as well and it's not always a careless act. But it is a worry.

When old tax debts come back to haunt: What seniors need to know about latest collection drive

I actually thought it was seven years but that is beside the point. It has just been pointed out on tv that Optus hasn't paid something like 86million in taxes but don't quote me on that. Surely they should be going after these big companies who shirk their responsibilities rather than retirees...

The hidden grocery hack that's saving savvy Aussies up to $1,800 per year

Perhaps some people need a reminder so anything helpful is great. I certainly find it very useful.

Why Australia Post's cashless move has seniors up in arms

Let's hope those areas have a few regular outages then they won't be able to do any business and will realise the futility of their decision of no cash. Also the pensioners and people with disabilities in these areas can't necessarily just go to the next post office in their area who offer cash...
