    Family-run hardware shop

When I was a child there were no large hardware chain stores like now. I can remember going in to our local store and Dad could purchase however many nails or screws he needed and not having to buy huge packets that he didn't really want.

A receptionist dismissed my health concerns – but I was diagnosed with a terrifying illness. Learn the warning signs now!

I totally agree with the member who said you know your own body and when something is not right. How often do we see Mums having to fight with doctors who insist there is nothing wrong with their child but later find something quite serious. I was diagnosed with a non Hodgkins lymphoma of the...

‘They’re already struggling’: New changes to aged care spark fear among families

There are advocacy services (look under Aged Care) in the websites or directory. At present the changes to the aged care system are very vague but am expecting reduction in services/money for services and equipment. We have a marvellous cleaner who comes in weekly and assists me as I have back...

Feeling the pinch? Here's why some might miss out on a potential $932 support increase

As it often said politicians are completely out of touch to the real cost of living on a low income be it wages or pensions. They don't have to worry if they will have enough money for mortgage payments or rent, food medicine, petrol or fares etc. They only look at the total cost of an...

About 30 years ago we went camping in a National Park site in Sydney where you had to get there by boat or ferry. It was a lovely Easter apart from the constant rain and being freezing cold. Our two man tent was pretty basic and kept most of the rain out. We decided to have a barbeque and our...

    Cassette Tapes

Not the first cassette recorder/player we ever had but when we got engaged I gave my husband a Sony Walkman which used cassette tapes and some how he didn't have the usual problems with it.

A couple of years ago I was going through the supermarket checkout and when I got to pay my pin number wouldn't work. So embarrassing - I had visions of abandoning over $200 worth of Christmas shopping and having to go home and get a different bank card. Then I heard the lady behind me say -...

Qantas issues shocking ultimatum to Aussie woman hours before flight

It is a challenge flying with someone who has a wheelchair but the airline can make a big difference. Although we have only flown domestically we've found booking through a travel agent seems a lot easier and they check availability as airlines don't usually take more than a couple of...

'Charity is just a big business': Aussies outraged over op shops' price hikes

At Geebung, Brisbane we have 4 op shops opposite the station. They are Red Cross, Lifeline, Link Vision and Salvos. They all have good items at very reasonable prices. Perhaps being so close together and lots of healthy competition helps keep the prices down?

A recent dream I had was me riding a high powered motor bike near Hexham, Newcastle. I was all decked out in black leathers and was much younger. Funny thing is I have never ridden any type of motorbike but it was fantastic in the dream!

Want to make extra cash before the election? These jobs are hiring right now!

I worked at the last State Election in Queensland and enjoyed doing so. The Electoral Commission website has information for working at the election if any members are interested in working.

‘Such an amazing and loving soul’: Fans heartbroken as beloved TV icon (90) passes away

I have always loved Richard Chamberlain as an outstanding actor across many different roles. I was quite young when I first saw him as Dr Kildare and thought he was one of the most handsome people I had ever seen. Rest peacefully Richard.

What’s one fashion trend you proudly rocked back in the day?

The eighties big Hair perm as my hair is very fine it was a big change. I also loved my hot pants dress in a pale pink colour which opened at the front to reveal the very modest hot pants but from the back looked like a normal dress. The other thing I loved were my knee high white boots!

I'd love to go back into different times in history to see what it really was like e.g. 18th century.

    Transistor Radio

We took them everywhere (prior to the mobiles of course!) Saw a guy with a trannie at the NRL match on Saturday so he could listen to the football commentary.
