I got an answer from a Coles delivery driver just recently. It is the way your groceries are gathered. Each aisle gets its own crate, they don't have time to pack everything into bags the same way the checkout does, so you end up with multiple bags, or really heavy or really light on bags.

I kinda figured they were like the scales for Coles Scoop and Weight. Time saving is the key I guess. Quick service, happy customers. Gone are the days when we relied on memory.
