Why cash still matters: Woolworths incident sparks debate on cashless society

It’s part of the costs that businesses have to undertake in order to run their business, in the same way as they need a phone line, the internet, cash register, counters, stock, furniture, display racks, electricity . . . the list goes on. I don’t expect to pay for an extra item on my bill to...

Why cash still matters: Woolworths incident sparks debate on cashless society

I saw an article recently about $50 in cash kept in circulation keeping its value, whereas $50 spend by card keeps losing its value because of transaction fees. It put the question of cash v card in perspective. I wish I could find it again. 🤣

    Classic Mac and Cheese

This was one of the first things I learned to cook, and is still a favourite for a quick Sunday evening meal. My technique for the sauce is to mix the flour with the cheeses in a saucepan, then stir in the milk gradually over a medium heat, along with a knob of butter. Quicker, and no lumps ever.

Is your ATM safe? Experts reveal why banks selling ATMs could be damaging for Aussies

This whole issue makes me so mad. They want us to pay by card so that they can charge us for the privilege! I bank with Bendigo Bank, the only one in my small town, which means no fees for their ATM, and also with ING who reimburse fees charged by other ATMs.

    Joke The Mother-In-Law

So was mine. And because of her example, I’m determined to be the best mother-in-law I can be. And I know I’m succeeding because of the way my son-in-law and daughter-in-law treat me.

    Electrolux Man

In the mid seventies in Melbourne I was visiting an English friend when the Electrolux man came calling. My friend invited him in for a demonstration, even though she wasn’t in the market for a new vacuum cleaner. She kept saying things like, “I know they’re good hoovers, but I don’t need a new...

Firefighters come to the rescue of a 'cheeky' labrador pup

I don’t think it would cross my mind to call the fire brigade for a dog being stuck somewhere in the house. However, when my son was three he put his head through the railings of a friend’s verandah and couldn‘t get it out again. The fire brigade were doing some training nearby so they came...

Smart shopper's massive savings at Kmart: How buying children's clothes can save you money!

I used to shop in the children’s department in the UK in the early 70’s. Apparently there was less tax on children‘s clothing so it was cheaper. Shops often have the same style in both the adults’ and the children’s departments.

Oh, that clears up my confusion. And yes, I so agree with you about MAFS. There’s been so much rubbishy reality tv on in recent years.

I regularly get $200 and sometimes more at the (manned) checkout. It’s a service they offer, and there’s nothing wrong in using it.
