It wasn't a surprise for them they knew what they were doing in ripping people off. If it doesnt state there is a surcharge up front and how much it is, then there is no legal requirement for you to pay.

I would just refuse to pay as this is not part of the service in Australia and then take them to court for deceptive practices. I would also take cash and not use a credit card so you dont get scammed with that surcharge either.

Lets see if Woollies stick to the prices they say they will have. I doubt it as they always seem to push prices up closer to the Christmas period to take advantage.

For a bit of fun and to stop shop lifters which are people that feed themselves or kids I follow them through to the checkout and ask if they are going to pay for the goods or drinks they or their kids consumed during their visit. Makes it awkward for them but fun for me.
