Melissa Doyle, one of Australia’s favourite TV presenters and the former face of Sunrise on Channel 7, surprised audiences and fellow celebs alike when she returned to the show to promote her new book, 15 Seconds of Brave.
Mel, as she is fondly known, was there as a guest and made an incredible first impression when she came in saying: ‘Good morning! Big fan of the show!’
All three stars on the show were left laughing, with Nat exclaiming: ‘Oh thank goodness!’
Mel said that it was a wonderful feeling returning to the studio and catching up with so many familiar faces, both those behind the camera and in front of it.
'It’s so nice walking in, I just feel like hugging and hugging and hugging,' she said.
'Anyway, it’s lovely to be here. Thank you!'
Mel immediately went on to start talking about her new book, 15 Seconds of Brave, which is a collection of stories about people who overcame the toughest struggles in their lives.
And some of these stories may seem quite familiar to her current fans and viewers.
'You know, it’s been really hard the past few years for everyone, in a different way,' she said.
'So many challenging degrees and everyone’s had to dig deep to find a way through something, and I just felt like it was the book I wanted to write at this time.'
'All of the stories are very, very different and I’m hoping that someone reading it will find even just one story and one little snippet in it that might help them and give them a bit of strength,' she added.
She also gave updates on the goings-on in her household, mentioning that her two children are doing well.
'She just finished her first year of uni, having a ball,' she said of her daughter Talia.
'My son Nick just started his third year of uni in the United States, he’s having a ball.'
“They’re both gorgeous, tall, healthy, happy. They’re lovely. How lucky are we!'
Mel hosted the Sunrise show for an impressive 12 years before resigning in 2013 due to health complications.
In 2020, she left the network entirely due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent budget cuts.
But she didn't give up show business completely and went on to present the docuseries Australia Behind Bars for Channel 9 before returning to Seven this year, this time as the host of the revamped This Is Your Life.
Fans of Melissa’s from back in the day were elated to see her in a new light, shedding the usual serious demeanour that one usually expects from her.
'I’ll have a read of it! I enjoyed you on breakfast TV.' one fan wrote.
'Looking forward to reading this very inspirational book with you narrating it.' another added.
Others made sure to address her time as the head of Sunrise, saying: 'I loved your Sunrise days!'
'I miss you hosting Sunrise,' one fan wrote.
We don't know about you, but we here at the Seniors Discount Club get a little bit nostalgic when we see old friends reunited – especially on television.
It warms our hearts to see that people can remain close even after moving on from working together, and we love nothing more than seeing them catch up and chat about what they've been up to lately.
