Buy a cheap Telstra phone. It doesnt degrade, it already is. Wont even hold charge overnite, full charge to %25 without any use. Bought to be used as an emergency phone, so dosgustingly pathetic, have gone back to an old nokia. Serious health issues, both on disability pensions, wife battling...

Jim Chalmers delivers a grim outlook to struggling pensioners

Ndis, what a sick joke! Wife has serious injury to her spine, bump in the car could take her life. Tumour in her brain, causing loss of use of left side of face, neck as well. Also a mass in her chest which rubs against her spine. Other issues too. She can't get NDIS because she doesn't have...

Jim Chalmers delivers a grim outlook to struggling pensioners

Have got through paying $1100 in one fortnight for medical bills. Both on disability pensions, no super. Moved again, found somewhere that weekly rent is lower, not sure for how long. Power etc going up will push rent up here too. Trying hard to put as much as we can away to cover wife's funeral...

    Solar scam.

Solar scam. Recieved a cold call about having solar panels fitted to the roof, financed by the solar rebate. Had my name and mobile number, I worked out how. When I refused to comply, he went overtime trying to convince me to continue. I asked how the panels would fit on my caravan roof. Indian...

Can you guess which tattoos are the biggest regrets?

Watched a lady get a tattoo on her shoulder. Had children, along with family and friends who all supported her. She told me it was the first time she was proud of her body. She goes in regularly for surgery, to have every joint opened up, to have calcium scrapped from her joints. The tattoo is a...

Pensioners are taking drastic measures to cut down on rising power bills - here are some sad realities faced by elderly people

Left the hospital after visiting pre- op, then Specialist and Surgeon. The rage running so strong we were both numb. Another op cancelled. We are sending you on to another hospital, they have better trained staff than us. Does that mean when they speak sunshine, starbursts an butterflies come...

Rising costs of living push many pensioners into poverty: "I'm not sure I will survive"

That is good news. Another visit to the hospital next week for my wife. No hope of a good outcome. Staff need serious retraining.

Rising costs of living push many pensioners into poverty: "I'm not sure I will survive"

With regard to the "PET" scan, the only way you can get a scan, is if you already have a cancer diagnosis. Then the scan may confirm how far it has spread. Am trying hard not to comment further the disgust I feel about how poorly the medical system does not support those without private health care.

Rising costs of living push many pensioners into poverty: "I'm not sure I will survive"

Wife and I have serious health issues. Yes, worked all our lives, till we were put on the disability pension. Over 50 you pay for MRIs, unless a specialist requests them. Point being the medical expenses have left us with enough to cover a single bare basic cremation. Which unfortunately is in...

“Being homeless is expensive” – Mum forced to live in a tent with baby, toddler, and husband as Australia’s rental crisis escalates

Wife and I live in our own caravan, in someones back yard. Due to serious health conditions we have been told we need to consider moving into a unit. Where? Cost of doing so will take what very little is left the medical system hasn't grabbed. Well aware, we are not on our own, homeless...

Experts advise Australians to brace for another surge on electric bills and groceries as fuel excise tax impacts logistics and transport companies

Due to medical reasons wife and I are on highway regularly, hospital/Dr visits. Rather noticable that semis are travelling at approximately 90 ks, as we do. Due to fuel saving costs, if you think I am wrong take notice of how many vehicles are doing the same. Travel well, travel safe.

Came from NZ in '85. Havnt looked back, never regretted the move. As life moved on I worked as a welder. Married, moved around in Queensland. Decided to close the business and go travelling, working as we went. Always had a few health issues. Both of us put on the Dis. Pension, that slowed us...

What's your favourite travel destination and why?

Too many to list individually. West coast of WA, has many spots. Getting there across the Nullarbor, a lot of side roads to explore. Where it might take some a few days to reach the next spot, we could take several months. Walcha in NSW is a lovely spot. With lot of areas around to visit as...

What's your favourite travel destination and why?

Away from the coast, also away from large towns. This will make sense. To an area where it is not overlly populated. Looking for wildlife, where we can observe without bothering them. So flowing water is a bonus, as much as trees and assorted growth. Not overly interested in tourist areas, due...
