Still Love Your Phone? Here Are the Best SIM-Only Deals in Australia Right Now

Still paying too much for your phone each month? You’re not alone, and the good news is, you don’t have to.

If you already have a phone you’re happy with, switching to a SIM-only plan* could help you save hundreds of dollars a year.

Because let’s be honest, have you seen the price of new phones lately? If you want the latest model, you’re often looking at $1,000 or more upfront, or locking yourself into a contract for years for a new phone that only offers barely noticeable upgrades.

If your current phone still does everything you need, there’s no need to replace it just yet. You can keep using the phone you know and trust, and simply switch to a SIM-only plan that suits your needs*—some start at just $12 a month!

Whether you only use your phone to call family and check emails, or you like to browse and stream 4K videos, a SIM-only plan can suit your needs (and your budget).*

We’ve teamed up with our good friends at WhistleOut* to round up some of the best SIM-only deals available right now* so you can save without giving up the phone you already know how to use.

Plans under $20 a month*

If you’re not a heavy internet user and mainly use your phone for calls, texts, and the occasional email, you can easily keep your monthly phone bill below $20.

Plenty of budget-friendly SIM-only plans give you unlimited calls and texts, plus a decent amount of data* for everyday use. Some providers offer introductory discounts, helping you save even more in the first few months.

Plans under $30 a month*

If you like to browse the web more regularly, use maps, check the news, or scroll a little more on social media, you might find a plan with more data.*

These mid-range plans* are perfect for Aussies who want more flexibility without stretching the budget too far.

Plans under $40 a month*

For those who want to make the most of their phones, like streaming shows, video chatting with family, listening to music, or even using mobile data to connect a tablet or laptop, there are still great-value options that won’t break the bank.*

Many providers now offer large-data SIM-only plans under $40 a month, including options with 40GB, 50GB or more.* Some even run on the major telco networks, giving you better coverage in more remote or regional areas.

And because you’re not paying for a handset or locked into a long-term contract, you can switch or downgrade any time if your needs change.

With so many affordable SIM-only plans on the market*, there’s no reason to stick with an overpriced plan, especially if you already have a phone you’re comfortable using.

Whether you’re a light user who just needs the basics or likes to stay connected all day, there’s a plan out there to suit your needs—and your budget*: no contracts, no expensive upgrades, and no unnecessary extras.

Switching is easier than you might think, and some telcos even let you keep your existing number too!

So, if you’re looking to cut your monthly phone bill without sacrificing your connection, a SIM-only plan could be the smart move.*

I am with Optus pre paid started $180 , 365 days text and phone calls all I need ,then dropped to $150 after the court case went up to $240 if paid by certain date otherwise went up over $300 ., have been told Aldi was best so will be looking into it next time it’s due.

If you get your electricity from AGL, they have some plans which you may be interested in. My current plan costs $15 per month with a $5 discount for being an AGL customer. It is an X-Small 3GB Mobile Sim Plan which I have yet to go over 1 GB usage in a month. Check this out....

Just be careful with some of these cheaper plans. They can do it by limiting to 4G only service and/or limiting the speed you can attain. Maybe not worry some people but it's good to know what you're getting into.

And how many of these plans provide coverage in regional (let alone remote) Australia?

Optus reception in Tumby Bay was hit and miss when we first moved here - for reliable internet, I had to switch back to Telstra. Aldi piggybacks on Telstra and has nearly the same coverage as Telstra. Might be more expensive, but it is reliable.

FYI Tumby Bay is a town 50k north of Port Lincoln - technically regional/rural I suppose. Certainly not remote!

I am paying $70 a month & don’t know why. I am with Telstra but do not use the internet through Telstra. I think it is worth a phone call to find out why.
OMG, I'm with Amaysim. I pay $15/month for unlimited calls and texts. Plus 8GB of internet which is more than ample for me.

TPG $12.50 is only for the first month, then it is $25 a month after that. Another 'suck us in' advertising! SDR should be ashamed at the way this has been advertised! 'Did you know many over 60s are paying just $12 a month for their mobile? You can too! Here’s how." So not true!
If you read the ads completely they clearly state that the price is only for a certain limited time.
So SDC are not wrong my daughter has a plan which is $12/month all the time Open your eyes and read. TPG clearly states 50% off for a limited time.

My wife and I used to pay Telstra $50 - $60 per month each for our mobiles. A relation showed us that going Prepaid sim only we cut that down to $30/month each. Then Telstra sneakily upped that to $35 two years ago then $39 last year. The only reason we use the big T is that when playing at “grey nomad” we need the full coverage that they can provide. If anyone can tell me which other telco can provide the same coverage as Telstra we would be very interested. All the telcos that use the Telstra network have a “watered down” service of Telstra coverage.
boost is a company that uses the telstra network. it is actually owned by telstra. it is their cheap version. like banks have an interest free option on bank accounts. look into it. we found we save a lot of money, and get higher amounts of data as well. calls are unlimited in australia, and also free to about 15 different countries.

I have a mobile phone just for my use as we have home phone. Most of the time it is turned off as I do not give everyone the number. Only three people apart from Telstra have that number. It is with Testra and my cost is $39 for 6 months. Our home phone is coupled with the internet service and we only pay for the calls and the internet service plan that we are on. My mobile is pre paid

I have been with Aldi for years and never had a problem. $25 a month with auto payments every 28days set up. They are on Telstra network.
