Delivery driver's infuriating act has restaurants furious: 'Give him 1 star'

In today's world of convenience, many people opt for at-home options instead of venturing out.

However, relying on outside services hasn't come without challenges, sparking mixed experiences for businesses and customers.

While some enjoy the ease and accessibility, others have faced unexpected issues that raise questions about the system’s reliability.

Recently, a social media user's post brought to light an incident that has sparked widespread discussion and outrage.

The post, which has since been deleted, detailed an 'infuriating' act by an UberEats driver that a vigilant restaurant employee exposed.

According to the note in the social media poster's order, the UberEats driver picked up the customer's food, which was already prepared and ready for delivery.

Instead of delivering it immediately, the driver decided to have lunch at the restaurant first.

Recognising the potential delay and impact on food quality, the restaurant staff took it upon themselves to remake the order fresh for the customer.

‘Hi, your UberEats driver ate lunch in our store when your order was already ready to go,’ the note candidly advised the customer.

‘I’ve remade it fresh. Give him 1 star.’

This act of transparency and customer care by the restaurant staff was met with praise from social media.

Many commenters appreciated the restaurant's effort to ensure a great customer experience despite the driver's lack of professionalism.

‘I get that everyone that has to eat but maybe not take an order while you do so, or take your order to go along with the one you’re delivering,’ one said.

‘These drivers have the ability to literally make their own schedules too, I don't see why dude couldn't just finish an order and spend the next half hour eating before accepting another one,’ another echoed.

The incident also opened the floodgates for others to share their delivery driver horror stories.

‘I've had someone take a bite of my food. At that point, just eat the whole thing,’ one shared his sentiments.

‘In London every time me or one of my mates bought something from MC Donalds, the driver [would] eat a few fries/nuggets. We stopped ordering from MC Donalds because of this.’ a different person detailed.

Others recounted similar tales of drivers eating parts of their orders or causing significant delays by taking unscheduled breaks.

‘Had someone order from Mac Donald’s over Christmas for everyone who was working. We watched for an hour, our Uber driver [drove] past us and went all the way into town, and stopped where we assumed was his house with our food,’ a commenter recounted.

‘Cancelled the order and got Deliveroo instead, which showed up in 10 minutes.’

One even reminisced about the days when restaurants employed their delivery personnel, who often built relationships with customers and provided a more reliable and personal service.

‘I used to do food delivery in my late teens/early 20s for a tiny little restaurant—I was the only driver they had. And honestly, it wasn't a bad job at all,’ he said.

‘Bring back in-house delivery drivers!’ a different person nodded.

As we navigate the pros and cons of third-party delivery services, we must remember the value of customer service and its impact on our dining experiences.

While convenience is king in today's fast-paced world, incidents like these remind us that it shouldn't come at the cost of quality and reliability.

On several occasions we have had food delivered. The driver drops the food at the front door and leaves. No indication they have been. We have a door bell, and a ships bell at our front door yet none were used to indicate our delivery had arrived. Only after waiting an extra long time for the delivery, did we open the door to be ready for the delivery only to find cold inedible food sitting at the side of the door under the bell. We have stopped ordering and if we have to, open the door and check regularly to see if food delivered.
We now watch the tracker when possible and have watched our delivery taken in the opposite direction to our house.

I was at Hungry Jacks recently and a driver came in to pick up a delivery order and took it into the bathroom with him. Why no go to the bathroom first? i realise that it is not really so disgusting but still??????

You just have to look at the HUGE majority of the takeaway food delivery drivers and they are one breed.

Dirty sub continent grubs!

I wouldn't put it past them if they spat in the food or something more sinister.
My thoughts exactly. From observing just about all the pick-ups, I wonder.....seriously, who would employ that individual? I know I would have trouble employing them.

My son orders Uber like there's no tomorrow. I need a sign on the house. House of Uber. Cant count the number of times they have come to the door with the food and then the dog barks and they take the food back to the car and leave and cancel the order. One guy left the food 2 doors up in the street, one threw it in our bin which was out for rubbish night, and another just took it. The dog is in the backyard, colorbond fully fenced yard!. We then had the driver who wouldn't come to the door because our cat was sitting behind the security screen door. I noticed she was taking a long time to get out of her car which was in my driveway so I went out and asked to if there was anything wrong and she told me she can't come to the door because there's a cat. I think the best one of all was the driver who couldn't read the address number so he dropped it off at the first house he found in our street and Uber wouldn't refund for this.

Everyone has the right to be lazy about things sometimes.
Lazy sometimes, yes, but then don’t complain that the cost of living is so high if one cannot put REGULAR & VERY FREQUENT laziness aside and do some cooking for oneself.

There are people, like the aged and those with a disability, that cannot cook for themselves and in those cases there are also government funded (to a degree) organisations one can be a member of who will assist with home cooking if needed, there are also meals on wheels (MoW) organisations in every state that will deliver healthier meals instead of the rubbish and unhealthy junk bought from restaurants, like McDonald’s, Hungry Jacks, and other fast food outlets.

MoW meals are decent and healthy. We, as seniors in our 80s, buy the odd 4-6 packs of MoW meals which come frozen, we keep them on hand for when I haven’t had time to cook due to being out of home doing other important work. Otherwise I try to cook up a big batch of something in my slow cooker and freeze some of it for later. I find my slow cooker an absolute boon as I can do basic preparation of many foods, slow cook and then freeze the bulk for later. With slow cookers you just prepare the basics, put it in the cooker and forget about it for a few hours. Of course it also depends on your own particular food preference as not everything, but most foods, can be done in a slow cooker. Get on the internet, if you can, and find a few slow cooker recipes. If everyone on this site is capable of using a computer or tablet to communicate as we all seem to be capable of doing here, then it’s not difficult to manoeuvre through the internet to find some easy recipes.

In our town, the takeaway food delivery costs are $5,7 & 10 depends on where you live.
I wonder if any of the private drivers delivering tucker declare that their cars are used for commercial gains of employment to their insurance companies. I bet that none are.

He may have been a bit hungry as well. Not all go there for either a "P or P".

NEVER, and I mean NEVER, had takeaway food delivered. But on the odd occasion (very seldom though) we have had to resort to McDonalds for a small burger because we are out at lunch time, I have noticed that their bags containing the delivery meal have a stick-on seal over the opening. Hopefully that gets delivered as a sealed bag and cannot be tampered with.

None of us know what goes on in a restaurant kitchen either.

We have used Uber Eats and my kids use uber often.
I'm now glad that shops actually tape up the bags , if anyone went into it you would know.

We have sat a MacDonald's eating and seen the uber guys collect orders then stand outside near their bikes talking to other delivery guys. I commented to hubby that looks like people are going to get cold food.

My daughter who is a manager at McDonalds said the Uber guys are tge rudest people and they are always having words with them

What was disgusting was when my daughter had ordered a pizza and when she opened it she found small Cockroaches in the box. She ran outside and put it straight in the bin.

At first she thought it must have come from the uber eats driver car, but I said most likely it was from the pizza shop. They have the boxes pre assembled and stacked.

She complained to both uber and the pizza shop and got nowhere. I told her I would have reported it to the Health dept.
