I thought it was standard practice to do as you do. Take pictures, keep evidence and check your accounts. It really does pay to "cover your own a*se"!

Thanks for the warning. I, too, use PayPal for everything that I buy online - I thought with safety. I shall be keeping an eye on things!

I use PayPal whenever something I buy offers that choice. I couldn't be bothered keep putting on card details when that's easier to do.
It's never even crossed my mind that something could go wrong with it.

And my wife's always checking our bank account anywayso she'd see straight away anything wrong.

I do not give my main credit/debit card number online to make purchases.

Open a new account (Commonwealth Bank has a Pensioner Debit account ) and I only keep about $10 in that account.
Then if you want to make a purchase online use that account and transfer the amount to the Pensioner account and use that card to pay online.
Make the purchase and pay from that account, the maximum you could lose is $ 10.00 or however the amount you choose to put in there.
I hope this can help some people and give them a bit less fear about online purchasing.
I never take that debit card with me as it is used only for online

Use this account for Paypal (just leave about $10 in the account) Then if you purchase anything using Papal, or any other similar to Paypal just transfer the exact amount into that account and then make your payment immediately.

if there are any attempts to use the account the most you could loose is $10

A lot of companies offer that way of payment. With your payment details already input on their system when you sign up, you press the payment button and it's paid. It's as simple as seeing up a direct debit from your bank.
Or with the normal way you can put it your name and address and card details every time you buy something.

Your sense of humour is a cerebral vacuum.

I dislike the automatic payments. Had lots in my cart and only wanted to purchase two items, before I knew it they were all processed. Also subscription came out via PayPal without authorisation. Glad they had cancel subscription at the bottom.

That's correct, I never have a balance at Pay Pal so they debit my designated bank account, never had a problem.

I have used PayPal for years with no issues.
I am wondering what an online alternative might be ILO PayPal.
My reasoning for using PayPal was that I don't have to put debit card details out there when I pay. I also have a dedicated card I use for this and it has a minimum limit.
If I see anything unfamiliar I go straight to the PayPal account for a verification. I feel in control of this and believe that is the key. I do not let "we know you on this device" go through and always login using my very complicated password with each activity.
No matter what we do, vigilance is imperative. It's a jungle out there.
