Frustrated traveller claims Jetstar damaged their luggage: 'It’s like it’s deliberate'

When you're a musician, your instrument is not just a tool of your trade but a part of your soul.

So, imagine the heartbreak of an Australian musician who discovered his guitar case severely damaged after a Jetstar flight from Melbourne to Launceston on February 10.

The musician, who wished to remain anonymous, had just performed at a festival and was returning home when the incident occurred.

Upon landing, he found his guitar case broken, cracked, and scraped in several places.

The musician had even written a plea on the case, 'Please take care of me. This instrument is my income.'

Jetstar, in response to the incident, offered to reimburse the cost of a new case and the tape used to hold the damaged case together.

However, the musician, still reeling from the shock, has vowed never to fly with Jetstar again.

'I am almost impressed at the damage to my case,' he said, expressing his disbelief at the extent of the damage.

'I think it’s related to the big containers they put in the planes and maybe the fact that they don’t have their own crew.'

The incident sparked outrage on social media, with users slamming the airline for its apparent negligence.

'They don't give a rat's [a**],' one commented.

While another added, 'Wow, that's some effort to damage it.'

'It's like it's deliberate,' a third replied.

Another user said that the case looked like it had been run over, while another added that it looked like it had been dropped from the sky.

'As someone who always flies with a guitar, this is scary,' another said. 'That is some serious mishandling.'

In recent news, Jetstar has also come under fire for losing a suitcase containing rare and sentimental items.

Robyn, a mother of two, and her partner embarked on a journey from Hobart to Melbourne with their children, aged two and four, on December 31.

The trip was a festive family holiday filled with joy and celebration. However, the holiday cheer quickly turned into despair when they discovered that their large blue suitcase was missing from the baggage carousel upon arrival in Melbourne.

We need to know if the case with sentimental items was later traced and returned. Is there a way to pay for fragile items?

When we were sitting on the tarmac in London about 13 years ago, the baggage handlers were literally throwing suitcase back and forth. We saw ours fly past the window. When we picked it up at the carousel it was damaged. Yes we did have travel insurance but the excess was more than getting another suitcase. Glad we don't put anything fragile in our suitcases

On a flight from England back to Australia some years ago I had my case damaged on the last leg of the journey. When I went to the carousel to collect it the pockets on both sides were ripped open. As it happened I had zipped both these pockets closed with small lock on each of them. The lock on one was broken the lock on the other had disappeared. The only content of each pocket were still there and obviously the person trying to find something valuable was unlucky as there were only crossword magazines in them.

Unfortunately, damaged luggage seems to be a fairly common occurrence. I never buy expensive luggage anymore. Even minor things like the wheels getting stuffed up had occurred too many times.

I’ve had luggage destroyed beyond repair on aircrafts over the years. Maiden long haul holiday with brand new cases only to find them on return trip totally battered beyond recognition.
