Are these boots considered 'bogan' or chic? Fashion fans say their piece!

When it comes to fashion, Aussies are known for their laid-back style and practical choices.

However, a new debate has been heating up online, and it's all about a trend of being socially acceptable or downright 'bogan'.

The conversation kicked off when Laura Henshaw and Steph Claire Smith, the hosts of KICPOD, asked their listeners to weigh in on the most divisive trends.

Among the usual suspects like matcha, cheese, and coffee, one item stood out: Ugg boots.

Laura, fresh from a trip to New York City, shared her surprise at how different the Ugg boot's reputation was overseas.

'There's something else I've started wearing in New York that I feel like in Australia you actually feel like you can't wear out of the house. Ugg boots,' Laura confessed.

'They're seen as chic in New York, but in Australia, people think it's bogan.'

Her co-host, Steph, was taken aback by Laura's story.

She admitted to thinking that it was perfectly normal to wear Uggs outside in Australia.

However, Laura's experience was different, as several people questioned her footwear choice.

'I feel like they're in, and he's behind,' Laura joked.

The debate quickly spilled onto social media as Aussies chimed in.

'I feel like you can only wear them to the supermarket late at night. That's where I see them most,' one commented.

However, others were proud to flaunt their Uggs everywhere.

'I wear mine everywhere! With activewear to pilates, with jeans to the footy, trackies to the supermarket,' declared another.

'Super common in Perth…or maybe we all just like to walk in our PJs,' a Perth local shared.

'I personally have three pairs, and I walk in them every day. Hubby walks with them to site as a tradie before changing to his work boots.'

Some younger Aussies and those who've travelled overseas saw Uggs as a trendy, 'chic' choice.

'No! Chic! With a pair of wide-leg slouchy pants over, it's a 10/10,' one commenter wrote.

'All the girls in Europe wear them. I just went there for winter! 100 per cent will be wearing here,' one traveller reported.

Others also pointed out that the shoe's style also matters.

'I think the full boots are bogan, but those low ones with a red pattern could be Australian chic,' said another.

Amidst the debate, many Aussies pointed out the importance of buying genuine, Australian-made Uggs.

After all, the Ugg boot is an Aussie invention made for both confidence and comfort.

Whether you see Ugg boots as a symbol of Aussie ingenuity or a 'bogan' blunder, there's no denying they're warm, practical, and uniquely Aussie.

I can recall wearing my UGG BOOTS every day when I first bought them decades ago. I would wear them every where except not to formal outings. It was the fashion and they were ever so warm and comfortable. These days, if Iwas more mobile and active , yes I certainly would wear Ugg boots out doors every where, all over again, not for the fashion but more so, for the ultimate warmth and comfort, 🙏🦋

In the 80 and 90's I would wear them everywhere in winter, inside and out. But nowadays it's extremely hard to find the real thing and the quality is off. The last time I bought "Australian uggs", they had an inside tag saying "made in China"!!!! Very unhappy, Jan!!!!

Great versatile footwear and warm to boot ( yes, a deliberate pun).

The answer, is yes bogan and they can be super stylist if worn with clothing that "works".

At a certain age, function come before fashion, though may partner won't let me out of the house wearing them lol 😆.

I love my ugg boots. I have a black pair and a tan pair of genuine Aussie ones.
I also have two pairs from .guess where, yes Temu. One pair is red and the other pale pink which I wear with matching outfits.
Obviously they cost nowhere near the cost of the Aussies ones, but they are the ones I get the most compliments on.??
I guess I must be a 78 year old bogan.

I have never worn UGG`S I don`t like the look of them and they make my feet feel too hot. But what is wrong with other`s wearing them anywear they want too, it`s a bit of snobb value to consider them bogan, my adult children wear them all the time, and obviously love them, so what ? They always look good! I like Crocs and flip flops because they suit me, and I like them, they work for me. I could not care less what people think of me when I`m wearing them.

Like @Sherril54, I have never owned or worn Ugg boots. I expect they would be hopeless in wet weather and become stinky and fall apart.

And Crocs!! The worst footwear ever marketed. I would prefer to walk barefooted over broken glass than wear a pair of Crocs!
You're right uggs are definitely not for wet weather, especially pale pink ones. Lol

Oh,god @Veggiepatch i hate hate hate crocs!!! Ugliest things I’ve ever seen! And they smell! lol. My hubby, who was born in the years when the plastic sandal branded you as poor, would never be caught dead in them but his long time fishing mate gave him a pair for when they’re out on the boat and he swears by them! Whoda thunk?!?!. I love my uggs. We have a store about 80 kms away that makes genuine sheepskin products and we get them there. Being a fatty, boots rarely fit my calves but uggs always work so I’m happy to wear them all winter!

I’ve had Ugg boots in the past, but they were strictly for inside the house. But I found them clumsy and prefer soft fluffy socks to keep my feet warm.

When I visited Canada the last few times, I’d see girls wearing them out and about. Just didn’t look right. And they get dirty far too quickly when worn outside.

Love CROC`S Love CROC`S they are awful to look at though!

I wore a pair of Ugg boots on a trip to England I the early 80s. Admittedly they were a bit different Navy Blue and embroidered, but everyone wanted to buy some like that. I think there was a case against them being called Ugg. Can’t remember who won but they are still called Ugg
