Discrimination is alive and well. This is such a major conversation

I dont know where to start. Queensland is so far behind. In Brisbane it is in need of major spending. In the rest of Queensland it is very inadequate. Tactile tiles are our way of moving around the community. I call upon all Government officials to go into the community blindfolded and do their normal tasks blindfolded. I am tired of being told by department people that they will refer it. I however have not been contacted by my local council member even though I have con them several times. Meanwhile my safety in the community has been severely compromise. I know that people of all ages kick them up. Education is what is needed. I call upon the government to make braille part of the curriculum as they have decided that only a qualified teacher can teach braille so the vision impaired people have gone without whilst said people are being taugh. This is not assistance this is stupidit.

Is this article saying everyone should be taught braile ? Or how much he / she hates QLD.
Not really sure what the point is here except it sure does have me scratching my head.

@sdc did you read this before posting it.
She’s obviously visually impaired as she talked about “tactile tiles” and maybe she wants braille on things because she can’t read the signs. I’d hate to be visually impaired or blind I’d be too scared to leave the safety of my home.🥲

That's the first time I have heard of tactile tiles. It would be horrible being either blind or deaf

I have seen them in Melbourne. The lift buttons have then in our block, which is good knowing we have at least one visually impaired resident here, that I know of.

It has me wondering if there are more where needed at crossings, I know realised tram stops have them but not sure about others.

Now my attention has been drawn to the problem in Queensland, I'll be checking here in Melbourne and reporting it to the local Fed candidate.

Thank you for posting this. Most of us are totally ignorant about how visually impaired manage to navigate the environment outside their homes.

I have seen some of these tactile tiles in some places here in Melbourne but will be checking to find oil many places are without them and shall report to my Fed Candidate and local council as well in the hope of getting more that are obviously needed for the independence of our usually impaired neighbours.

The lifts in our block have braille on the buttons. Now my attention has been brought to this problem I shall be checking whenever I'm out and about.

Hello Willemina, Being sight impaired must be a really big handicap, one that I can’t bear ever having to face. I must admit that even though I have seen several people with white sticks or assistance dogs, I’ve not given much thought to how you all cope. I know that Launceston has audible beeping walk & don’t walk signs around the city but apart from that I don’t know what else is offered. Thank you for making us aware of the problems that you, and other vision impaired people face. I will certainly investigate what is being done to make live a little easier for your particular group. What are the tactile tiles that you mention? I’m unfamiliar with them, but would like to hear more, along with what else would help. I think we get so caught up in our particular problems that we often overlook people who really do need more assistance.
Good luck with moving forward & getting things done. Patricia 😇
