Industrial deafness is just another form of selective deafness syndrome. The major symptom of this syndrome is the incapacity to clearly hear what is being articulated by the person in control. It is predominantly experienced by men over the age of 18.

That was like my mum talking to us kids and then me talking to my kidsIf I whisper beer from another room my husband will say yes please. If I speak to him in normal voice, in the same room, he doesn’t hear what has been said. That’s the type of thing I assume your wife refers to as selective
