Food Standards Australia recalls popular snack mix due to undeclared allergens

Staying on top of our health is paramount, especially as we get older.

That's why everyone should be aware of any potential risks in the food we consume.

An urgent recall could affect many of our readers, particularly those with allergies.

Nocelle Foods issued a recall for its Nature's Delight Ranger Mix 400 g bag.

The snack mix has been a staple in several homes and is available across IGA, Drakes, and Foodland stores in South and Western Australia.

The snack mix is also available in other smaller independent retailers.

However, an undeclared allergen prompted the recall.

The allergen in question is cashews, a tree nut that commonly causes food allergies.

The specific batch of recalled products had a best-before date of 16/08/2025.

Undeclared allergens could be a serious food safety concern.

It can lead to unexpected allergic reactions, which in some cases can be severe or even life-threatening.

So, if you have this in your pantry, it's time to take action.

Food Standards Australia and New Zealand (FSANZ) stated that cashews were not indicated on the product's packaging.

This oversight could mean that consumers with cashew allergies or intolerance could suffer an allergic reaction.

For those who have purchased the Nature's Delight Ranger Mix 400 g, you may return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

It's a step that could ensure your safety and should remind food manufacturers about the importance of accurate labelling.

For those who had already consumed the product, FSANZ advised to seek medical advice.

Food recalls may be inconvenient, but they are also a reminder of the vigilance needed when it comes to food safety.

We encourage everyone to check food labels, especially if you have known allergies.

I am fortunate enough not to have known allergies. However, I do have diabetes and it's astonishing to find sugar included in so many foods together with flour.

OK, let me see if I've got this right....
Hypothetically, I have a nut allergy, any/all nuts, I'm in the supermarket and I grab Nobby's Nuts and read the packet and in the "Contains" area it doesn't mention what sort of nuts are in the packet, yet, on the outside of the packet it states "Salted Peanuts". So I buy the packet, go home and eat the nuts and die.
On the Richter Scale of stupidity where am I?
Reality, I buy a packet of Cashew Nuts, I can see they are Cashew nuts, must I read the packet to find out if they are tree nuts or ground nuts or Nobby's nuts (geez I feel sorry for Nobby, bloody nutless wonder.)
****The above is all in fun, my heart goes out to those who suffer this allergy and the precautions they have to take.
I am highly allergic to prawns and crustaceans, and any pre-packaged fish products I have to check that it does not contain any prawns or crustaceans, having said that the anesthetic that hospitals use when you have an operation is extracted from crustaceans, yet that has no effect on me other than kill the pain or knock me out.****

I would love to know where you got the information written above about anethetic being extracted from prawns. If you have a reference please post it, I would love to read it. Thanks.
Google states: Gaseous anesthetics used most commonly today are a single gas nitrous oxide and volatile fluorinated liquids (isoflurane, desflurane, sevoflurane)

In 2015 I had arthritis reconstruction performed on both hands, when they asked me about any allergies I told them about prawns..
NOTE, I was distracted when writing the above piece and left out CRUSTACEANS (wondered why it didn't make sense)
The anesthetic is extracted from crustaceans and not prawns per se. It is also crustaceans that I am also highly allergic to.
My apologies for misleading info, I will edit but leave your quote as is.
