If it's a "meet you" coffee, then I'm happy to pay, as a man. On a date I would presume to pay.. .old school. If I'm asked out, then she should want to pay and perhaps I might pay in any case, depending on the date. If I ask her out, my shout. No issue.

Many, many years ago, on one of my "meet you for the first time" coffees, she was delayed, so SHE suggested that we meet later and have something to eat, instead of coffee.

When the bill came, she didn't move or make any attempt to chip in or pay.

Remember, this was the first time (and last time) we had ever met and off a dating site.

I thought this was quite rude and a presumption on her part. No intention to pay for anything.

In any other circumstance, a second date or if it was only coffee, I would pay automatically.
Have you had any luck on dating websites

If a man asks you out he pays…..
If I ask someone out, I expect to be the person paying. It's just how I have been brought up. However, what this means, is due to the fact that a date can VERY EASILY cost $100.00 not counting petrol and cost from that point on.

It is the reason I believe in our current financial climate why so many men do not ask.

And in my 69 years "as incredible as this may sound" no woman has ever asked me out.
Back in the day you would go into a shop or a business and casually say to someone that liked you, "would you like to go to the drive-in with me?' It was all said.

Due to a relationship breakup and a time of injury I needed to recover. I hope before years end to be in a relationship. The last time I went out to a restaurant was 23 years ago. Women are unfathomable (the word OMEN with a W in front, is a term of endearing mystery) Women are also expensive. Not many loves to do simple things like going fishing or creative arts anymore.

Just like the post asking who pays for what on a date. It's how people these days relate and unfortunately true for so many, it's all about a person's bank balance these days.

And so as delightful-adorable and muti-talented a person, as I am, if this is what life with a likewise planet earth loving woman requires these days,

Johnny Pink may yet pass.
I just have toy boys who pay attention to me and pay for the privilege of my humour and company

I really think it's a matter of attraction. You get one chance for a second date so communication comes first. I would go with the flow but let the man determine who pays. If he offers to pay for the food I would at least offer to pay the drink portion & suggest we go fifty fifty on the next date. That lets him know your at least interested in him asking you out again.

Reading these replies I note that chivalry is not dead. Personally I would be offended if I was asked to pay...especially if it was a dinner date. However I have heard stories of men asking (when the bill arrives) for their dates to "go Dutch"...though what the Dutch ever did to deserve this infamy I don't know. Good on these gentlemen who count it as a matter of masculine pride to pay for both.

Most of us on here come from a time when it was the boy asking the girl out. It was extremely rare for it to be the other way round, even if us girls might have wished it. You didn't want to get the reputation of being "fast". Instead you would put yourself in his path, frequent his hangouts, talk to his mates and generally make yourself front and centre such that he had to "see" you!
Back in the day before the sexual revolution, when 50,000.00 women burnt their bras and declared they would not be dictated to, and promptly became secretaries and stenographers? It is my belief that it was a sexual attraction the first occurred between couples and if the feeling was mutual, then the mating dance so to speak would begin. However it is my belief that it was a certain semi animal attraction at the time, but of course the sexual revolution changed all that. Of course I maybe off on the wrong track all along?

I have recently started “ seeing someone” he always insists on paying but I also still offer to pay especially if we go out to lunch ( haven’t got to the dinner stage yet ) fingers crossed .
If you gone out more twice, then he is interested unfortunately these days it's to easy to be accused of everything predatory other than a genuine interest in a person, as it used to be in days gone by, days I fear never to return.

Thats a Phunny comment about not being dictated too, then becoming secretaries and stenographers. ha ha ha. Yep, the mating dance prance days were enormous fun.

As a larrakin-natured Australian male, I have done everything including sitting with a mouth full of sticks and continuously raising up one elbow to women, as well as shaking' my tailfeather often at parties to attract interest. I was lucky enough to be employed as a maintenance carpenter, on a tourist Island (south Molle) in the mid-eighties 197 on staff, only 43 guys only 7 guys didn't have a regular partner. It was a dream job for any life-loving Libran, who loves animating, so I can't complain.

Personally, I miss going to a good ol" fashioned Fancy dress party packed full of really great people, (sigh) yep, it's true, we had some truly hilarious days ...

Know the photos posted do not resemble the person in real life (I'm much better looking so I understand that ha ha) Three different long term email connections prove that people really can sync up together with words.
The thing is when you meet the people in real Life, it's a house of cards. I won't be doing that again. I'll either meet someone in real life and we instantly like each other and are enthused by each other's company, or it's not happening other than as an online friend.

My first date with a very attractive Lady commenced with pre Dinner drinks. When I asked if she liked Cocktails (tales) she replied " Yes. Do you know any good ones" !!

Oh, I am an Australian so I would treat this as definite interest banter and so I would no doubt respond with the names of a few well-known icebreakers, as after all she asked.

In days gone by, when chivalry was valued, the man would always foot the bill, and do so with a smile on his face! I’m in favour of that habit continuing. There seems to be some thought in relation to the new buzzword ‘equality’ that the bill should be shared between both diners. When I plan a date, I plan to cover whatever it costs, including flowers, and certainly the complete dinner date. Cheers!
in this day and age, manners have flown the coop. The number of males who I see out dining with a pretty girl all dressed up and he is like a slob and they all wear caps. That is my pet hate. Manners, no such thing.
