The housekeeping staff need to be sacked......items like these should never be found in any accommodation houses if the housekeeping staff are doing their job properly....it's very lucky for the place that this occurred wasn't named and shamed. Hope that the person involved got clear report from the hospital.

I long to be able bodied to clean again! My cleaning business went for 28 years. Included motel, hotel work, rentals, deceased estates, offices and factories and private homes. Never in those years been caught wrongly working. When travelling, I check everywhere, and everything, if necessary a call to reception and problem solved. But there shouldn’t be a PROBLEM if they work honestly. Managers expect us humans to be quick and efficient, I don’t agree.

Yes we have. We stayed at a caravan park at Bairnsdale, vic quite a few years ago. The fitted sheet was already on the bed which was unusual as you usually make it up yourself. I went to the office & asked for a top sheet. As we were about to leave we stripped the sheets off. The mattress under the bottom sheet was disgustingly. So they were trying to hide it! People in next door cabin had problems as well. Never stayed there again!

The first thing I do at a motel/hotel room is fold the sheets back and gently run the palm of my hand up and down the bed to see how soft the sheets are.

Now it serves another purpose. To detect any metallic nasties!

A few years ago I read a story about children play areas parks in Sydney. Slides and swing for the children to play safely or so we as parents hope. This particular park while innocent enough during the day. However, nighttime became a haven for drug users who would try to bury their needles in the sand of the sand pits so they would not be caught by the police who would often search those found in the play areas. Park employees would use metal detectors gloves and screens to find the buried needles left in the sand. On the note of the story My wife is diabetic, and she uses the insulin pens and it is unfortunately easy to accidentally lose the needles. Often my wife will fill her insulin pump with the needles of a morning. Placing the needles on the bed sheets before putting them into a bulky sharps bin. All as it takes is for her to move on the bed and it is easy to have one fall on the floor or go in-between the sheets. It is not the first time we have found them on the floor. However, one would think in the hospitality industry that the bed linen is changed every day and therefore removing any possibility of something like this occurring.
