We have some pretty exciting news for all the Sesame Street fans out there!
Cookie Monster, one of the show's most recognisable characters, actually has a real name. (Do we hear gasps from some of you?)
That's right, Cookie Monster has a first name (and it’s not Cookie), and it was revealed to the world in a recent TikTok video uploaded by the official Sesame Street account.
For those who grew up watching the lovable ball of blue fluff devour copious amounts of cookies on-screen, this might come as quite a shock!

A baby Cookie Monster is first seen on the post sitting atop a high chair and playing with toys when his mother hands him a plate of cookies.
He then proceeds to sing about his journey from 'Sid' to 'Cookie Monster':
‘First time me eat cookie when me was very small. Me had never tasted cookie at all.’
‘Me was just a mild-mannered little kid. In fact, back then me think my name was Sid!’
‘But then my mummy gave me something very new. She told me “This is cookie and me baked it just for you.”’
‘So me took bite and feel kinda strange. Delicious taste sensation, me knew me life just changed!’
The post, captioned ‘Every great hero needs an origin story’, has close to half a million views.
Understandably, many in the comments section lost their minds at the revelation.
‘EVERYONE LINE UP! WE'RE GIVING BABY SID COOKIES! Here you go baby cookie monster!’, one ecstatic user reacted.
‘I told my family his real name is Sid and you’d think I told them the sun is green. That was a fun conversation,’ one amused commenter said.
Noticeably, more than one user wrote in varying shades of disbelief: ‘His name is Sid?!’
Finally, we can now respond with a firm ‘Yes, Cookie Monster's first name is indeed, “Sid”!’
Though this news might come as something of a surprise to many viewers, others were quick to point out that this isn't actually new information – apparently, this big reveal happened way back in 2004 during an episode of Sesame Street!
