You won't believe what this homeowner found lurking in their living room picture frame!

It was just another typical Saturday at home in Queensland for one unsuspecting family when they discovered an intruder lurking in their home.

In a video shared online, a painting can be seen hanging by the family’s wall. All seemed normal, until the video zoomed to the side of the painting.

And there it was: the unwelcome guest all cosy behind the artwork, with its unblinking eyes looking straight ahead.

A large carpet python had wedged itself behind the wall and frame of hanging artwork.

They immediately called the Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers to extract the animal.

The cheeky python was soon safely removed thanks to snake removalists from the Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers.

‘That was what was pulling your painting down,’ Dan, one of the removalists, said.

When asked about the size of the carpet python, Dan estimated that it was possibly a ‘five foot’ snake.

Startlingly, the removal didn’t take long, and then the snake was moved away from harm and back to the wild.

You can watch the video of the snake removal here:

This is just one of many snake encounters in Queensland this year. Recently, a fierce battle between two large carpet pythons was snapped at a popular Sunshine Coast beach–much to the shock of onlookers–and just one week prior, two male carpet pythons were found brawling in a ceiling.

What to Do If a Snake Is Discovered in the Home

First things first, don’t panic. Remember, most snakes are as keen on maintaining their distance from you as you are from them. So, if you stumble upon an uninvited reptilian guest, the key is to remain calm and composed.

It is quite vital that you resist the urge to become the next Crocodile Dundee and attempt to trap or handle the snake yourself. Leave the wrangling to the professionals– experts like Dan who have been specially trained in the art of snake handling. Not only is it a hazardous task best left for them, but handling wildlife without the necessary permit, even with good intentions, could lead to fines or penalties.

Instead, what you can do is keep eyes on your serpentine visitor at a safe distance and quickly ring up a local snake catcher. Be prepared to give them a thorough description of the creature–colour, size, and behaviour–it all helps towards identifying the type of snake and determining how serious the situation might be.

While waiting for help to arrive, ensure to usher kids, pets and overly curious grown-ups to a safe and separate area.

Lastly, avoid cornering the snake, as this can cause it to act defensively.

If you’re in Queensland, you could contact Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers at 0409536000 or 0408545440.

Just to be on the safe side, make sure to check if your locale has similar services.

I've never feared snakes but I have great respect for them. I'm happy if there are snakes about, they keep the vermin at bay and the ridge back snake eats cane toads and other snakes. Very happy to have them around the property but not in the house thanks.

My fear of dragonflies goes back as far as I can remember. When I was about 40, I tried to kill one by trying to swat it with a three iron.

It didn't end well. I struck a star picket, the head of the golf club flew off and got me in the side of the head.

End result - a fractured cheekbone. Ouch!
