You won't believe what happened on Sunrise after a 'disturbing' guest came on air: 'So funny'
- Replies 0
When you think of Christmas, does The Grinch come to mind?
That green, mean, fuzzy-faced trickster was always up to no good, and he gave us a good chuckle (and let’s face it, a fright) back in the day.
Well, recently the Grinch himself made an appearance on the morning show Sunrise, delighting fans and receiving an amused reaction from the hosts.
What’s more, their general bemusement was all caught on camera for all of us to enjoy!
Matt Doran, Monique Wright, Edwina Bartholomew and Mark Beretta were sitting at the desk engaged in on-air banter when their floor manager, dressed as the Grinch, came into view.
'Can I just ask why Mitch, our floor manager, is now dressed as the Grinch?' Monique asked before everyone erupted into laughter.
Edwina, still bemused, replied, 'It's disturbing, actually.'
‘His personality is really coming out,’ Matt said.
Monique continued: ‘Do you know what? That’s actually how I see you Mitch when you're telling me to “shhhhh” when someone else is talking.’
And then, Mitch — in costume, but not out of his duties — quickly prompted Mark to read their next news item on sports.
But not without a cheeky jab from the sportscaster who said: ‘(I) don’t love being introduced by an Irish Grinch.’
Naturally, it brought an even bigger laugh and the hosts then finished delivering their segments.
Fans chimed in with their appreciation, with one saying, 'This was so funny, I couldn’t stop laughing.'
‘(It’s) even funnier to see & hear you all trying to get on with the next segment & trying not to lose it laughing,’ a second one added.
A third agreed, calling the Grinch-laden broadcast 'the best lineup for Sunrise!'
On the topic of our green furry friend (or foe…), have you ever wondered where the Grinch came from?
According to the Smithsonian Magazine, the grumpy monster first made his appearance in Dr Seuss’s (real name: Theodor Geisel) 1955 poem The Hoobub and the Grinch. In it, he was a swindler trying to sell a piece of string for 98 cents.
Two years later in 1957, Dr Seuss published How the Grinch Stole Christmas — widely attributed to be the piece where the titular character skyrocketed to fame. The piece tells the story of the Grinch and his best efforts to ruin the holiday for the inhabitants of Whoville.
Since the book’s publishing, the Grinch has gone on to star in films, the earliest of which was in an animated 1966 film and the most recent being 2018’s The Grinch (voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch) — if you don’t count his Sunrise cameo, that is!
Now, we can't confirm whether or not the Grinch has a lasting place on Channel Seven’s morning show — but if he keeps making us laugh like that, we would certainly welcome him back!
In the spirit of the so-called silly season, we just had to highlight this light-hearted holiday story as a reminder that it’s important to let loose every once in a while, even for grumpy characters like the Grinch.
Speaking of the Grinch, one mum used him as an inspiration for her Christmas tree. Did she do him justice? You be the judge!
