We at the SDC are quite fond of throwback photos. After all, who doesn't love a trip down memory lane? Even though getting older is a part of life that we all have to come to terms with, it’s always nice to relive the good old days every now and then.
And it seems as though we’re not alone in this. Recently, a photo of a beloved Australian TV personality has left fans and colleagues shocked and pleasantly amused.
He’s been a Sunrise host for so long, so his fans can’t imagine David ‘Kochie’ Koch as any different than he is now...but that’s exactly what he’s shown everyone in a photo he uploaded on social media recently.
On Sunday, Kochie took to Instagram to share a nostalgic black-and-white snap featuring himself and his 7NEWS colleagues from the 1990s.
‘Blast from the 1990s. Going through some old photo albums, and this popped up,’ he wrote in the caption.
In the caption, Kochie said that he was doing finance reports at the time for 7NEWS with Ann Sanders, Dr John Darcy, and Dennis Grant, who was a political editor at the time of the photograph.
‘Haven’t changed a bit,’ Kochie said and added a laughing emoji in the caption.
The photo shows Kochie standing at the back with Dr Darcy and Mr Grant in a rather serious-looking pose, with the young Ann Sanders in front, pointing at her colleagues behind her, and flashing the camera a cheeky smile.
The photo also shows Kochie with a full head of hair.
Following Kochie's post, the Sunrise team, 7NEWS staff and many of his followers were absolutely stunned.
‘Blimey, is that Kochie at the back?’ one inquired.
Another commented: ‘Love seeing this.’
‘Brilliant! Some team!’ Fellow TV host Mark Beretta wrote, while Natalie Barr added: ‘Ann hasn’t changed!’
‘Oh wow, you actually had hair once upon a time,’ one cheeky fan teased.
Many of the comments marvelled at how Ann Sanders doesn’t look like she’s aged much.
‘Ann looks like a young Nat here,’ one of Kochie’s followers said. Another agreed and wrote: ‘Ann Sanders reminds me a little of Nat.’
‘That looks like Nat,’ one more replied.
Ann Sanders, one of Australia's most respected TV journalists, began her broadcasting career thirty years ago. But unlike other TV presenters, she prefers to keep her private life away from social media and does not have an Instagram account.
Meanwhile, the photo is the latest throwback from Kochie, who likes to share videos and pictures from his illustrious career online.
In 2022, footage emerged of a younger Kochie performing with INXS, an Aussie band, in 2003.
According to reports, the host sang backup vocals live during the opening of a rugby clubhouse. He performed alongside the band’s frontman, Jon Stevens. Kochie even told members of the band that it was a dream of his to sing backup for INXS.
After performing ‘outstanding backup vocals’ onstage, Kochie grabbed the microphone and thanked the audience. ‘Thank you, ladies and gentlemen, a round of applause,’ he said.
The footage then pans to Kochie and his former co-host Melissa Doyle, who was laughing at his performance.
‘He’s going red,’ she laughed, to which Kochie replied: ‘It actually felt better than it looked, I thought.’
Kochie has been able to celebrate and reflect on his career in so many ways, and we have to tip our hats to him.
