Then, she refreshed her countertops with marble vinyl and mentioned she already had the adhesive tiles up from a previous project.

‘I’m very happy with my efforts,’ she admitted.

Kmart’s Décor & Furniture Paint – Chalk Finish White comes in a variety of colours, including white, black, gold, pink and green – with the last one being the colour the woman chose for her kitchen.

According to the product description, the chalk paint has a matte finish and can be easily applied to many surfaces, such as glass, metal, ceramic and timber. A 500ml can costs $10.

The reviews on Kmart’s website are a testament to how effective the product is.

‘Updated my vintage wall unit in a weekend. It’s a great product,’ one said.

‘What a beautiful smooth paint to work with!’ Another commented.

For her bench tops, the woman used Kmart’s Vinyl Adhesive Roll in Marble, which costs $3.75 per roll. Based on the product description, this adhesive roll can be used for a lot of DIY projects, scrapbooking, and embellishments. It can also be applied to almost any smooth and flat surface.

Product reviews were also positive, with many claiming the adhesive roll made a ‘huge impact’ on their own homes.

‘I bought these rolls to re-line the kitchen cupboards and the ugly bench tops. Can’t stop looking at how amazing it looks now,’ one wrote.

Someone else shared: ‘It’s exactly what I’d been looking for to recover the shelves in our new (old) house!

Other Kmart enthusiasts were in awe of the kitchen transformation, with a flurry of compliments showering upon the woman’s post.

‘Your kitchen looks so fresh. Well done,’ said one person.

Another replied: ‘This looks like A LOT of work and effort; you should be so proud. It’s an amazing facelift, and I love the colour.’

One said that the transformation was ‘truly beautiful’ and that they couldn’t ‘believe it’.

While others had some questions about how the woman pulled off the affordable kitchen makeover.

‘Is the chalk paint quite strong in smell? I have areas I want to paint, but I’d have to do it in the house. I don’t want to inhale all the fumes, though!’ One wrote.

However, the woman was quick to reassure the person, stating that she ‘couldn’t really smell’ the paint.

The woman also explained that she sanded the surfaces she remodelled first before painting and used a roller to apply the clear coat of polyurethane to finish the makeover.

Kmart shoppers everywhere find joy in discovering cost-effective ways to revitalise their living spaces. In a similar instance, one Kmart customer took to social media to share the transformation of her bathroom for under $250, leaving many stunned.

If I wanted to update a kitchen without replacing the cabinets or worktops, I would be purchasing paint that is designed for the purpose! Bunnings sells Dulux paints that have been designed for just that purpose. I doubt that chalk paint and vinyl adhesive would last.
