You Won't Believe the Shocking Consequences of Ignoring This Simple Kitchen Cleaning Task!

We all have those little chores around the house that we keep putting off. Maybe it's cleaning the windows, dusting those hard-to-reach corners, or perhaps it's something as simple as moving the toaster to wipe the crumbs that have accumulated behind it. Well, one Aussie mum's story might just make you think twice about delaying your kitchen cleaning duties.

In a tale that's almost too bizarre to be true, a mother was left gobsmacked when her young daughter pointed out an unexpected guest hiding behind the toaster – a pigeon! Yes, you read that right, a live pigeon had taken up residence in the warmth of the kitchen, nestled among the crumbs that had been left to gather.

The mum shared her unusual discovery on the Tea Time Facebook group, a place where people divulge their guilty secrets. Her post, which was accompanied by laughter emojis, read: 'I'm throwing myself out here, but the tea is I've been putting off cleaning behind my toaster, but today I found a pigeon behind there. 😂😂😂'

The group members were understandably shocked and curious, with comments ranging from concern ('Was it dead?!') to humor ('Please m'aam, a crumb of a backstory, please'). The clamor for more information was so great that the mum obliged by updating her post with details and a video of the feathered squatter.

'It was alive!!' she confirmed. 'I honestly have no idea how it got there and how long it's been living in my house. It was just chilling.'

In the video, the mum's daughter excitedly exclaims, 'It's a magpie! I saw it when it was going to get a snack,' though it was actually a pigeon. The camera then reveals the bird peeking out from behind the toaster, surrounded by a treasure trove of crumbs. The mum gently pats the pigeon's head while her daughter suggests they keep it, saying, 'Mum, just steal it.'

The post quickly became a hit, with people finding humor in the situation. Comments ranged from 'This is actually so funny!!' to 'You had a crumb problem, he had an accommodation problem. It was a mutually beneficial arrangement.' One person even joked that they would buy a new toaster immediately, just in case the pigeon had left more than just crumbs behind.

This story serves as a humorous yet poignant reminder of the importance of regular cleaning, especially in the kitchen where food is prepared. Neglecting to clean behind appliances not only leads to a build-up of food particles that can attract pests, but as this mum discovered, it can also provide a cozy hideout for unexpected wildlife!

So, dear members of the Seniors Discount Club, let this be a lesson to us all. While it's easy to overlook the small tasks, they can lead to some rather large surprises. It's time to roll up our sleeves, move those appliances, and ensure our kitchens are crumb-free and pigeon-free.

Pigeons can be very opportunistic and unafraid when it comes to tucker.

When I was a kid, a favourite (there ya go VP) Uncle of mine had pigeons and chooks. He showed me how to crush up wheat, mix it with weetbix and milk and take a gobful of it. Then pick up a squeeker hold him near your gob and he would smell it, stick his beak in and start doing the head jabbing thing and wolfing it all down.

I used to think that was a really cool thing to do. Nowadays there's this bird-flu thing that says I have to now think twice about it. Having done that, I would still pick up a squeeker and feed him. maybe just to feel like that kid again.

I have not had any wildlife take up residence in my house, but because l leave a piece of wood to keep my back wire door open for my dog to go in and out. I have had magpies walk in and l only had one bad incident where the bird flu through the house in a panic leaving deposits for me to clean up after catching the bird and realising it. I have had a few doves come in too l just catch them with a towel and take them outside.
A few years back l had a couple of Black Ducks who use to visit well one came in to the house to find me. Hahaha 🤣 🤣 l have had a couple of Ring tail possums take up residence in my front porch roof. When they get a bit hot their tails drop down. Once l had a Blue tounge lizard drop by in the back yard.
I get the odd spider l just in courage them on the broom and take them outside.
For some reason the wildlife loves popping in for a visit.
Kind regards to all Vicki
