You won’t believe which favourite Aussie soap opera is making a comeback!

We all have our favourite television shows that we love to watch and get invested in.
For some of us, it may be a cooking show that gets our mouths watering. For others, it might be a crime drama full of suspense that has us on the edge of our seat week after week.
And then there are those classics that we’ve been faithfully watching for years.
One such show is Neighbours, an Australian soap opera that first aired back in 1985 and quickly became a worldwide phenomenon.
The show focused on the day-to-day lives of Ramsay Street residents in a fictional Aussie suburb called Erinsborough and how they dealt with many relatable issues, including family and financial problems.
Sadly, last July, it was announced that Neighbours would be coming to an end after 37 years on television screens around the world. Fremantle Media, the company behind the show, said it ran into funding problems after a major broadcast partner in the UK pulled out.
The development came as quite a shock to long-time fans of the show, who weren’t ready to say goodbye to their favourite characters just yet.
After all, everybody needs good Neighbours, right?
Well, we have just the news — in what can only be described as a miracle (or perhaps just good old-fashioned popular demand), Neighbours is set to make a triumphant return to our TV screens at Channel Ten!
The show will also be available via streaming on Amazon Freevee in the UK and the US.
The best part? The revitalised series will also be available ad-free on Prime Video in Australia and New Zealand seven days following the free-to-air viewing!
As an added treat for fans, the show’s official Twitter account even posted a teaser showing Susan Kennedy (Jackie Woodburne) rushing towards her husband Dr Karl (Alan Fletcher) and Toadie Rebecchi (Ryan Maloney).
‘Karl, Toadie, have you heard the news?’ she asked the pair.
‘We’re coming back on Amazon Freevee!’
A video call then comes in from Paul Robinson (Stefan Dennis), who is now sporting a beard.
Susan then tells Paul the news, as Dr Karl interjects: ‘You haven’t told us when.’
‘How does the second half of next year sound?’ she replies.
So there you have it, straight from Susan herself: expect new Neighbours episodes sometime in late 2023!
However, there are some emerging stories from this surprising comeback.
For one, it appears not all cast members were informed!
Takaya Honda, who played Dr David Tanaka on the show, took to Instagram to share his thoughts.
Sharing a picture of Jackie, Alan, and Ryan, he said: ‘Apart from these three and Stefan the rest of the cast are finding out with you.’
‘Please give us time to process, we don’t know anything more.’
It is also unclear at this point what changes to the cast or storyline will occur, considering that some actors may have decided to pursue other opportunities after the show’s cancellation.
On Facebook, thousands of fans shared their happiness at Neighbours' return.
‘This is the best news ever! Thank you, I have missed you all so much,’ a woman said.
‘Incredible news! We knew you weren’t gone forever! A little sunshine for our rainy days,’ a second chimed in.
Others, despite their glee, had things they were worried about.
One said: ‘Interesting to see where they pick up, and how much smaller the cast will be to afford the reboot.’
‘The show was amazing in the ‘90s but went downhill in the last several years, for this new show to have any chance, new cast and new location, and way better storylines!’ added another.
Well, whether you’re brand new to Ramsay Street or you’ve been faithfully watching since day one, there’s never been a better time to catch up on all your favourite moments.
