Would You Like a Slice of This Sweet New Treat? We Tried Woolies' Choc Chip Cookie Mudcake!

Here at the Seniors Discount Club, we take our sweet treats very seriously — especially when Woolies drops something new in the bakery aisle! So when we spotted the Choc Chip Cookie Mudcake on shelves, we knew it was our civic duty (and a delicious one at that) to grab a fork and dig in. And, a huge thank you to the team at Woolworths for making this taste test possible.

But does this new creation live up to the hype? Here’s what we thought…

April says: Cookie dough lovers, this one’s for you!

I know, I know — you’re meant to let cake come to room temperature, but we couldn’t wait that long. Straight from the fridge, it reminded me of eating cookie dough or cake batter (in a good way)… minus the salmonella scare, of course!

It’s softer and more sponge-like than your standard Woolies mudcake, which might not be for everyone, but I found it moreish and comforting. The icing was thick, and the generous layer of choc chip cookie crumbles on top meant every slice had a little something special — no fighting over the ‘best’ pieces in this house (or, rather, office)!

To be honest, I haven’t had the classic Woolies Caramel Mudcake in ages (Ash is our resident expert there), but I still managed to polish off a larger piece than I expected. It was supposed to be a ‘just one bite’ situation… famous last words!

Ash says: Don’t mess with perfection… but it’s still a treat.

I love Woolies mudcakes — especially the caramel one — and I reckon they’re one of the best budget birthday cake bases around. So when I tried this new choc chip version, I had high expectations.

The cookie bits on top? Fantastic. Crunchy, chocolatey, fun. But the cake itself was a little drier than their usual mudcake, which took it down a peg for me. I’d call it more of a ‘nice little sweet something’ than a showstopper.

Would I choose it over the caramel? Probably not. But it’s still a solid offering — and if you’re a cookie dough fan, you’ll probably rate it higher than I did.

Caramel remains my top-tier choice. Which flavour is your favourite?

Jonathan says: One bite turned into the whole slice.

This cake surprised me in the best way, and I really enjoyed it! It was drier than a typical Woolies mudcake, and more cookie dough-ish, which I loved.

The sweetness level was spot-on, and the icing was smooth and rich.

I was supposed to take some home for my wife, but I ended up eating the whole piece myself immediately (if you’re reading this, sorry, Ellie).

8/10 – I would definitely eat it again.

The Verdict?

If you love cookie dough, chocolate chips, and fun new twists on classic favourites, the Choc Chip Cookie Mudcake might just become your new go-to. As our reviews mentioned, it’s a bit drier and more sponge cake-like than Woolies' famously fudgy mudcakes, but it’s still a sweet slice worth trying, especially for afternoon tea or a cheeky dessert.
