Aspartame as well as many other artificial sweeteners have been known to cause or contribute to a number of metabolic diseases. This of course is also the case for sugar whether it be natural or refined. Many people believe that by replacing natural sugar with an artificial sweetener reduces the harmful damage caused, particularly those with diabetes or insulin resistance. Amongst other things as raised by this article, the fact is that all artificial sweeteners have a negative effect on our essential good gut bacteria. This can lead to many issues one of which is called a 'leaky gut'. At the same time artificial sweeteners (like natural sugar) can still cause insulin spikes within our bodies as the chemicals contained within the compounds cause the mind to believe its sugar and reacts accordingly. This is called a 'cephalic phase insulin response'. Arterial sugars to avoid are Aspartame, Sucralose, Saccharin, just to name a few. If you are one that cannot seem to give up your sweet tooth and that's understandable then you might consider trying 'monk fruit'. This comes in a granular form and looks a lot like white sugar, it is sweet to the taste and is the closest I've found to actual sugar. This product has a glycaemic index of almost 0 whereas something like honey comes in over 50. Monk fruit is actually a sugar alcohol derived from a plant which looks like a small green melon. If you must have a sweetener, then using this product in very small amounts might be useful. However, its best to start losing your sweet tooth altogether and get used to not having any sugar at all. If you are interested, it is best that you start doing some of your own research into this to determine whether this is applicable to you as well as satisfying yourself with the credibility of any information. I always knew that these fizzy drinks has artificial sweetness and could cause cancer . Also the artificial sweetness people put in their tea and coffee, all bad news . Then there is the baby powder from Johnson & Johnson has caused cancer . We are going back a long time , I would never use it for my kids and my oldest is nearly 47 yrs , I knew already then .

I have never had a fake sweetener if I want sweet sugar is probably the safest and I don't eat much sugar not even in my coffee
