Over time, the popularity of roast chicken continued to grow, becoming a staple in many Aussie households, with supermarkets like Woolworths providing convenient and affordable hot chook options to their customers.

According to this customer, BBQ chooks can be purchased for up to 80 per cent off their original retail price if you follow one simple rule.

In a post published on the popular Facebook group Markdown Addicts Australia, the shopper explained that Woolworths cannot sell hot roast chickens after they have been displayed for more than four hours.

As a result, these chickens are subject to some major discounts to help reduce food wastage and encourage sales.

To find out if a chicken can qualify for a markdown, check the time stamp on the chicken's price label, which indicates when it was cooked.

The Woolworths customer suggested that these hot chooks are generally cooked at the following three times: 8 am, 12 pm, and 4 pm.

In response to this post, many fellow bargain hunters chimed in with their experiences, sharing their joy in being able to score such amazing deals.

One user commented, 'Nowhere is allowed to sell food after four hours of being cooked? Very handy to know this.'

Another said, 'I used to work in Woolies! Yes, they do reduce the prices, and if it's still not sold, they only use the plain chicken ones for the next day as shredded. After three hours, it's 30 per cent, I guess, and after three and a half hours, it's more [of a] discount.'

While this smart trick may not work in every store, it's certainly worth keeping an eye on those timestamps next time you're at Woolworths and craving a delicious hot chook.

However, the actual markdown percentage might vary between stores.

Some helpful commenters on the Facebook post noted that only senior staff can apply a whopping 80 per cent discount, while regular staff members can only reduce prices by up to 60 per cent.

With this newfound information, we hope our bargain-hunting members can take advantage of these great discounts on hot roast chickens.

Why not enjoy a tasty and affordable BBQ chicken meal with your family, or get creative in the kitchen and repurpose the leftovers into salads, sandwiches, or even chicken pot pies? The mouth-watering possibilities are endless!

I'm not sure I would want one sitting for this long .

The warmers are just that keeping them warm.

I was reading an article stating you shouldn't keep food out of the fridge once it has cooled to warm

I was one who used to let food cool right down before placing in the fridge but apparently it should be put in the fridge cooling only slightly, so it's still actually hot.
The original reason people let food cool was because they thought it would change the fridge temperature and spoil everything else but apparently it doesn't just keep a little bit of space from other items.

Since reading this it has opened my mind to other cooked items including BBQ chicken

Yeah.. Nah!
Last two occasions of having a Woolies chook dinner each gave me a roaring dose of the Threepenny Bits.
I will not give them a third opportunity even if they GIVE the bloody things away.

And yet they do sell them as explained.

All the time sitting in the hot boxes cooking away getting dried out.. horrible! It's bad enough that they incinerate them first, what's so special about having charred chook?

Woolworths never have left chicken, they always run out of them.

There are never enough roast chickens anywhere, that I have seen. I once worked for Woolworths, and this might happen once, but they would make sure it didn't happen too often.
