Woolworths shopper nets 'two years’ worth of meat for unbelievable price

As the cost of living continues to rise, Australians are feeling the pinch, especially when it comes to grocery shopping.

However, one savvy shopper has found a way to beat the system, scoring a massive haul of deli items from Woolworths for a fraction of their original price.

This bold move has not only saved him a significant amount of money but also stocked his pantry for the foreseeable future.

The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, managed to purchase 23 meat items from his local Woolworths for a mere $51.33.

His shopping cart was filled with a variety of discounted deli meats, including chicken breast, salami, pastrami, and turkey breast.

All other items the man bought were priced under $4, while the most expensive item he got was toilet paper, which cost $13.50.

Sharing his impressive haul on social media, the man revealed that he took a 'big risk' by purchasing the discounted deli items, which were wrapped up, obscuring their contents.

'The Woolies worker just put them out and I said, “oh lucky dip eh!”' he shared.

After a moment's hesitation, he decided to seize the opportunity and grabbed the entire lot. 'I just grabbed all of it thinking, “Eureka, I have just hit the jackpot in Woollies,”' he said.

Once home, the man unwrapped his purchases to discover what he estimates to be 'two years’ worth' of meat. He promptly vacuum-sealed the items and stored them in the freezer.

He credits a frugal group from a social media site for changing his mindset about reduced food, calling it a 'huge money saver'.

His story has sparked a flurry of reactions from fellow Woolworths shoppers, many of whom were astounded by the incredible deal he managed to secure.

'Never seen deli stuff go on sale like that,' commented one Aussie.

Another shopper revealed that her local Woolworths 'does this on any food that they can't sell the next day' and shared that discounts start at 4 per cent off at 4 pm.

While many praised the man's savvy shopping, others expressed concern about the length of time he wants to keep the meat.

According to Food Safety guidelines, fresh poultry can be frozen for up to 3 months or more depending on the fat content, which means the higher the fat content, the shorter its shelf life.

Here are some tips to help you make the most of your grocery budget:

1. Shop at the Right Time: Many supermarkets discount perishable items towards the end of the day. Find out when your local store marks down items and plan your shopping trip accordingly.

2. Don't Be Afraid of the Discount Bin: While discounted items may be nearing their sell-by date, they are still safe to eat. Just make sure to use or freeze them promptly.

3. Buy in Bulk: If you have the storage space, buying in bulk can lead to significant savings. Just make sure you'll be able to use the items before they expire.

4. Use Coupons and Loyalty Programs: Many supermarkets offer coupons and loyalty programs that can lead to substantial savings. Be sure to take advantage of these programs.

5. Plan Your Meals: By planning your meals for the week, you can avoid impulse purchases and ensure you only buy what you need.

Remember, every dollar saved at the supermarket is a dollar that can be put towards other expenses.

With a little bit of planning and strategy, you can stretch your grocery budget further than you ever thought possible.

if you vacuum seal food correctly it can be kept frozen for anywhere from a few months to a few year. Just go on-line and look up "Vacuum Sealed Food Life" charts. It's truly is a game changer. Golden Rule of Freezing "Extract the max amount of air & extra water" as it that stuff that turn thing off over time (Freezer Burn). I have even frozen "LIVER/Lamb's Fry" for well over 12 months and well I have reopened it was still fresh, and when I opened my husband thought I had bought it that day.

I have no issue with meat in trays with UBD, it's the sliced deli meat and smallgoods that don't have labels that would concern me.
