Woolworths shopper discovers a secret to slash 10 per cent off their bill: ‘I’m gonna do this on purpose!’

The thrill of finding a great deal is a universal joy, and for Woolworths customers, a clever trick has been discovered that can help you save 10 per cent on your grocery bill repeatedly.

This loophole was stumbled upon by a customer after her Everyday Rewards Extra membership was inadvertently cancelled.



Launched in late 2022, the Everyday Rewards Extra program offers members a variety of discounts and rewards for an annual subscription fee.

One of the key benefits of this membership is a 10 per cent discount on one Woolworths shop and one BIG W shop each month, which can be availed online or in-store.

However, a customer revealed on social media that by cancelling and then re-subscribing to the loyalty program within the same month, you can receive an additional 10 per cent offer each time you renew.

The customer shared her experience, saying, 'I signed up for the free month on the first week of January, using a debit card that doesn’t have my weekly pay put into it.’



‘I used my 10 per cent off for January and then used it again the first week of February (so technically, it shouldn’t be ready again till March).'

She continued, 'Totally forgot it was going to direct debit from my other card that had no money in it, so it automatically cancelled my subscription. I realised today, so I quickly paid it and started it up again–only to be given another fresh 10 per cent off (that I used tonight)!'

The customer theorised that if you let your subscription lapse and then resubscribe, you could potentially double your 10 per cent off codes.

She added, ‘I know it sounds so stingy, and it was a total accident. But the way things are going, I’m gonna do this on purpose every month!’



This revelation excited other Woolworths shoppers, although some expressed concern that Woolworths might soon rectify the glitch.

‘Wow, how bizarre!’ one said.

‘Good work, but I suspect they’ll catch on eventually,’ another added.

‘Interesting. You could also try paying mid-month, using that month and [the] beginning of the next, cancel it, and then resubscribe in the middle of the following month,’ a third added.

‘Like what you’ve done but only re-subscribe in mid-March to use March and April and keep repeating to bring down the yearly cost.’

‘Yeah, it happened with me once when I forgot to pay, but haven’t done it since,’ another said.



Another shopper shared a different tip for scoring two 10 per cent off offers in a single month–by shopping both online and in-store.

They found that after using their 10 per cent off code in-store, they could still use the same code online for the next 24 to 48 hours before the system recognised it as used.

‘I’ve found when I’ve used my 10 per cent off code in store, I can also use that same code online for the next 24 to 48 hours sometimes as well before it recognises it’s been used (For Woolies anyway, not BIG W),’ a user wrote.

Another agreed, adding: ‘I find this every month, sometimes even up to a week later still works.’

A third wrote, ‘This happens to me too for both Woolies and BIG W every month.’



Speaking of 10 per cent discounts, Woolworths rebranded its mobile service last year to Everyday Mobile from Woolworths with its plans and deals that can help you save money monthly.

Gosh woolworths made me feel like a criminal because I have an account, hubby has an account , my daughter has an account as does one of my sons. Why because both daughter and son shop for their lunches , deodorants ect and their own food when on special diets .
They cancelled both mine and hubby's accounts and told me that you can only have two accounts per address.

I'm now shopping only at coles and woolworths have lost my $250 weekly online shop. Plus hubby's instore shopping

Can definitely use it twice - online then in-store. Try it. You need to use the online first in order for the in-store to remain available for the rest of the month.
 
My husband has a card also and we have Woolies car insurance so get 10% off for 5 shops each month😁
 
Woolworths will soon amend their card benefits/offers when they get their IT section working on another system. Then they will probably simply transfer all existing cards to the new system when they get it up and running and the benefit of cheating the system now will go.
 
So many of us like to complain about the sneaky practices employed by supermarkets, yet are cheering for shoppers deliberately 'gaming' their loyalty cards.
I hope this does not eventally have a negative impact on ALL shoppers by changes to supermarket, and other, loyalty programs.
 
I’ve had my Woolies reward card for years ! And never paid a cent however I do get 10% of my shopping once a month for using woolies mobile
 
No wonder the prices are rising to cover all this. If this was all stopped, I wonder ,would the prices come down?:unsure:

A Woolies employee told me about it. It is all legit.
Maybe that's why Woolies changed the program to in-store only. That didn't work - there was a mass exodus from the program and they had to reinstate the online 10%.

I joined it when it first came out and was free, then it jumped to some high price and I cancelled it. havent bothered with it since. I get $10 off now and again from the points. That'll do me. Certainly not going to keep joining and keep cancelling whatever this so called trick is?:rolleyes:

Saved $500 last year with 2 cards plus the $10 each time we accumulate points and you get double points. Definitely worth it. I don't keep joining. Join for the year and that's it. In this economic climate it makes sense. I definitely want to save $500+ on my groceries for a year.

As a Woolworths car insurance policy holder I am entitled to a 10 % discount every month.
However, the code that used to work in the past, e.g. FEB2024, is only applicable for in store purchases.
That's is most unfair for customers like me who do their shopping online.
Would anyone in my situation be willing to send a petition to Brad to ask for a review of this discriminatory practice?
 
I don't believe I am reading about the widespread use of this sneaky practice to get an extra discount. It used to be called robbery, sorry folks but all the excuses do not make it right. Sure they price gouge but you don't have to shop there if you are so hard done by. Woolies certainly are not paying for this duplicity - we are. An old saying "two wrongs don't make a right".
