Woolworths reveals global flavours Australians can't get enough of—is your favourite on the list?

Australia's love affair with international cuisine is reaching new heights, and Woolworths is catering to this growing appetite by expanding its international food aisle.

Once filled with modest offerings, this supermarket section has now transformed into a treasure trove of global delights—reflecting the diverse tapestry of cultures that make up the Australian population.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the nation's demographic landscape is changing, with the proportion of residents born overseas climbing to 30.7 per cent in 2023.

This shift prompted Woolworths to enhance its selection of international foods, ensuring that each store's range is tailored to the local community's preferences.

'We've seen the demand for popular international foods rapidly accelerate over recent years,' a Woolworths spokesperson said.

'Our International Food Team works hard to keep up with emerging food trends to understand the needs of our customers better.'

From the nostalgic Starburst originals to the creamy Kewpie Mayonnaise, the international aisle is a testament to Australia's evolving palate.

Food enthusiasts and bloggers have been quick to sing the praises of these 'hidden gems' within Woolworths.

'There are so many hidden gems and goodies from overseas that are not stocked anywhere else,' Melbourne-based food content creator Ange Eats shared.

'It's like being a kid in a lolly store in that special little aisle, you never know what you'll find.'

Another food content creator, Nectorious Papi, highlighted both the cost benefits and a sense of belonging—especially for expats.

'It's where you find all the goodies you've been paying top dollar for from imported online lolly shops at a reasonable price,' he said.

'It's fantastic not only for us Aussies but also those living here in Australia to have something from their home country.'

Among the most sought-after items in Woolworths' international range are the Turtle Chips Chocolate Churro, Korean instant noodles such as Nongshim and Samyang, and the iconic Biscoff chocolate bar.

However, shoppers must act quickly, as many of these imported goods immediately sell out.

The response on social media has been a mix of excitement and disappointment.

Some customers boasted about their local Woolworths' impressive international aisle.

Meanwhile, others lament the scarcity of options in their local Woolworths stores.

The fluctuating availability of these products led to several posts, with images of sold-out signs and shelves stripped bare of global favourites.

As the international aisle continues to evolve, Woolworths remains committed to meeting the growing demand for global flavours.

Customers are advised to check online for the availability of these international delights in their local store, ensuring they take the chance to indulge in these world-class treats.

With the expanding selection for international foods, I hope it won’t end up being to the detriment of loved Australian foods. Also it could impact on the small specialty (many times family-run), shops. Just a thought.

And yet Britain is getting the cold shoulder. Both Woolies and Coles used to stock items from Perth (WA)-based British Sausage, Ham and Bacon Company. One item dumped by each retailer is unsmoked back bacon.

Ask most supermarket staff and butchers for unsmoked pork anything and they look as though they're about to call the police.

Aussies smoke everything. Britons are much more discerning. But Aussies seek to restrict British staples!! This rather contradicts your post.
