Woolworths "No Change of Mind" Rule

Hi All - I've been enjoying the articles and feedback on this site and on Thursday my husband and I encountered an unexpected situation which left us bewildered and which motivated me to post. We had just finished the shopping at Woolworths Big Top Maroochydore and were astounded to see that we had spent $75. When we looked at the bill we had been charged over $8 for a piece of water melon. Given that a typical water melon is around 10-11 kilos this would make a whole water melon a shocking $40. Neither of us could justify this cost so we headed immediately to the info counter. Our cashier had also headed there because she'd closed her register. So there was no suggestion that we had interfered in any way with the said piece of water melon. However, we were informed that Woolworths has a "no change of mind" rule so they "could" not refund our $8.09 via credit card but they would provide us with a voucher for the month. We were astounded at this. Apparently this ruling came in 1 September 2020. We know this as a laminated statement was proudly flashed before our eyes. Anyway, as a matter of principle my husband held firm and after 5 minutes of discussion, we did indeed receive our $8.09 credit on our credit card. Just wondering if other members have come across this "no change of mind" rule at Woolworths?

Hello Wendy 👋
With food items they have a no return policy, unless there was something wrong with it.

I do understand why they have this policy I wouldn't want to buy something that someone else had taken out of the store.
But in saying this you never left the shop so it shouldn't be a problem.

If you buy on line even non food items neither Coles or woollies will return those.

Can I ask without sounding rude , did you weigh the watermelon? Normally it will have a sticker on it with weight, price and price per kg.

Hi Suzanne

Thanks for your comments

Unfortunately there was no sticker on the said water melon. In retrospect we should have looked for scales and calculated the final cost.

Enjoy your weekend.

Hi, just wandering if either of you went back into the store to check the price of the watermelons? Because if they had overcharged you and you show them , you should get the price paid back to you and get to keep the water melon as well for overcharging you. Just a thought as that’s what I do if I think I have been overcharged.
