Woolworths launches new mango range with flatter, smaller seeds and even sweeter taste!

As the days get warmer, it’s a clear sign that summer is just around the corner. And what's an Aussie summer without sinking your teeth into luscious fruits like mangoes?

It’s a tradition that officially ushers in the sunny season—offering a taste of sunshine exactly when we need it most.

So, with Woolworths’ mango shake-up creating a stir, we’re thrilled to spill the juicy details!

Woolworths recently announced its new mango range just in time for summer.

The supermarket giant is rolling out a new variety of mangoes, Maha Bliss, featuring tiny, skinny seeds—a welcome change for Aussies who know the struggle of getting more seed than flesh.

The Maha Bliss seed, originating from Thailand but now grown in Darwin, is now available exclusively at Woolworths.

Maha Bliss mangoes are now stocked in all stores across NSW, SA, and Victoria, as well as most locations in Queensland.

‘Nothing says Australian summer like a juicy Australian-grown mango, and customers will be excited to see them starting to pop up in their local stores,’ Woolworths’ Director of Fruit & Veg Paul Turner said.

‘While people are very familiar with Kensington Pride and Calypso mangoes, we actually have a dozen varieties of mango on offer over the season, including the lesser-known Maha Bliss.’

‘Maha Bliss looks a little bit different, like a long mango, however, the unexpected twist is actually their incredibly thin seed, which means customers get more flesh for their buck.’

Woolworths now offers 12 mango varieties, including favourites like Calypso, Kensington Pride, R2E2, and the new addition, Maha Bliss.

Woolworths mangoes come exclusively from over 120 local Australian growers, ensuring a bountiful supply of top-notch produce nationwide.

For a confident mango-picking experience, Woolworths' Mango team provided a brief checklist:
  • Don't rely on colour; some, like Brooks, are ripe when green.
  • Judge by feel and smell; ripe mangoes have a slightly fruity scent.
  • Choose heavy ones for juicy fruit.
  • Watch out for wrinkles or shrivelled mangoes; they might be overripe.
  • Small or odd-shaped mangoes taste great too.
  • Don't mind marks; they're only skin-deep and won't affect the sweet flesh inside!

Funny that I have lived in sunny FNQ for 35 years and never tasted a Mango.....I seem to get by with other delicious Australian fruits, like Peaches, Apricots, Grapes, Oranges, and Watermelons etc.....but for some strange reason Mangos have never attracted me enough to even try one, despite everyone that I know claiming that they just love them......it even seems silly to me you know, but unfortunately that's the way it is I'm afraid. 😏😉

Sounds to me that it is a GM one. I wouldn't touch it. All GM foods have been chemically changed at a genetic level to warp your mind and body.

@Littleboy8 Here's the mango prices at LH Fruit and Veg as promised per kg.

Keosavoy $4.99
Maha Bliss $7.99
Chocodam $18.99 o_O
Kensington Pride $4.99
R2E2 $4.99
Calypso $8.99
NDM (sour) $3.99
Fallan $4.99
Calypso (box) $48
K'ton Pride (box) $25

NDM and Fallan are green varieties while all the others are yellowish. The girl at the checkout tells me they are all Aussie grown. There are no comparison prices per kg for Woolies.

GM mangoes are hybrids of two different sub species of Mangifera indica. One of note is the NMBP-4069 hybrid of the Van Dyke and Kensington Pride varieties developed in Western Australia. If I ate one, will I grow a second head from my shoulder?

No chemicals were harmed during the development of the NMBP-4069 hybrid. In other words, get your head out the sand and research some facts, not some stoner conspiracy theory dreamed up in a drug induced stupor.

Same here. Closest I've been to a mango is orange and mango juice.

Yes, as one member just said unfortunately mangoes are full of fructose and certain other sugars (as are most fruits apart from berries which are probably the lowest). If you are diabetic or pre-diabetic best to avoid these sorts of foods altogether. Even in moderation or every once in a while, is not what a diabetic person ought to be doing, particularly as we got older. So yes, I think they are lovely too, but that's the facts.
Since the GI of mangoes is moderate, people with diabetes should eat them in regulation. If you eat up to 100 grams of mango daily, there will be no spike in your blood glucose level. Mangoes contain a high amount of fiber, calcium, and potassium. Its high-fiber content makes it a safe choice, even with diabetes.8 May 2023
  • When you’re eating mango, avoid consuming other carb-rich foods, as they can spike your blood glucose levels.
  • Try to balance the effects of mangoes with foods rich in proteins and fiber, such as eggs or nuts.
Point is a diabetic can eat mangoes and everyone's body is different

I went to Cabramatta in NSW for a look see around - such an interesting place with beautiful food. There were fruit shops there with so many different types of food - and mangoes. I bought a 2k bag of these and I liked them the best.
