Woolworths issues an urgent warning over sophisticated new scam
Woolworths has released an urgent warning after a customer reached out for guidance on social media after receiving an email from someone impersonating the supermarket's Service Desk workers.
Shopper Koula took to Facebook to post a screenshot of a note she received from a suspicious email.
The email — which was signed by a fake Woolworths employee named "Victoria Stone" — included the supermarket giant's official logo in the sender's signature.

The message was referring to a "complaint" that Koula had supposedly made at the Service Desk of her local Woolies store 12 months earlier.
The email said that due to their delayed response, they will be providing the shopper with compensation.
“It has recently come to my attention that your support case from exactly one year ago (24.11.2020) has gone unanswered because of a system error,” the email said.
“I immediately sent my superior Richard an email and explained that you made a complaint at the service desk in the store but the exact details were also lost.
“I can see here there was something wrong with a purchased item, but you were not able to return or exchange said item."
“This is against store policy, so we have decided that we will compensate you with a voucher."
“The value is obviously quite high because the matter took so long to solve."
“But you don’t need to worry about that Koula, it’s our pleasure because we value you as a customer.”
A Woolworths representative confirmed to 7NEWS that the message is a scam.

The representative also urged customers to be wary of this sophisticated new scam and to familiarise themselves with information on how to protect themselves.
The representative said: “It’s actually a scammer who’s attempting to trick people into giving out their personal and banking information. For more information please visit our website."
“The ACCC offers advice about phishing scams and how you can protect yourself [here] - please be mindful that we’d never ask our customers for their personal or banking details in unsolicited communications.”
