Such has been the case for one former Woolworths employee who has come under fire after he carried out an act that a lot of people deemed 'unprofessional' during his final shift with the company.

Sharing his stunt on TikTok, the ex-Woolies staff member chose to cap his final day by broadcasting a contentious message over the store's loudspeaker.

He wrote in the caption of the clip: 'I did a thing on my last day at Woolworths.'

In the video, the former employee can be seen speaking into the PA system to customers and coworkers.

'Attention please customers,' he says.

'I’d like to say that this is my last day, and I appreciate everyone working here at the moment.'

'But I would also like to say “F*** you, Woolworths.”’

So, why do people do it? It could be a way of venting their frustration, or maybe they just want to go out with a bang. Whatever the reason, it's generally not a good idea to take such extreme measures when resigning from a job. Not only is it unprofessional, but it could also come back to bite you down the line.

I worked for Woolworths for 20 years 12 of those as a manager. I loved my job I loved my customers and I was in the stkilda area very diverse range of people and challenging at times. Staff physically and verbally abused every day but the staff stuck side by side through everything. No one ever notices the sign at the entrance to a store that says customers have to abide by a code of conduct just as staff do.
So getting back to the story of the young man making his statement over the PA probably not a good idea but I get it. Woolworths do not care about their staff back in the past they did but recent years they bully and harrass staff they make them work long hours without a break and work outside the availabilities submitted by employees and god help you if you call in sick even if you have covid and I know many people who have experienced this. I resigned due to being diagnosed with Parkinson's and after all those years of loyal service their lack of care of duty to me caused a breakdown and I just decided that I would be better off leaving.
I did give them some words to remember me by but not over the PA which is probably what he should have done.
Wow that was very therapeutic getting all that out. I hope he finds a job that will be better suited for him in the future

He probably needed to vent but it was only to a limited audience so really lost its impact. Not necessary to do this, just walk away with your head held high and move on.

The man's an idjit. Don't like it then go elsewhere. Management has a duty and responsibility to its staff but this is NOT the way to show your disatisfaction. The question it raises is, did he leave or was he being pushed as in disposed of as services no longer required due to attitude?

I worked for Woolworths for over 20 years and loved every minute of it. Always respected by management & worked my way up to management level. Have seen a couple of people over that time who didn’t respect the rules make fools of them selves upon their exit from the company. Empty vessels make the most noise.( drinking at lunch break coming back drunk, serving friends & ringing up lower priced goods & many more stealing acts) telling everyone who would listen how bad Woolworths were to sack them.

Unfortunately staff concerns and grievances are not always passed on up the line to be dealt with. Maybe this guy thought the only way left open to him was to do something outrageous. I hope this stunt will not come back to bite him at some point in the future.

I have worked for that company in two different roles in two different States in two different decades (1972 & 2008). The only thing NOT different was how Woolworths treated employees.

When you leave a company that treated you badly best thing to do is report them. Also leave a review on their website. Reviews are not only for customers but employees.

I would take a minute and a deep breath before doing anything.

I worked in a job that I worked very hard in for years including no holidays in 13 years except public holidays. When I was sick I worked.

They were the worst people to work for, no respect . I made millions for them but when you didn't work extra days all the time they turned on you.

I walked out in the end with my head held high and all I said was ...it's your loss

Wow, lucky for woolies you are honest. I remember buying clothes for my daughter and after we left the shop (target) we worked out we paid less than what we thought when we looked at receipt we saw we were not charged for a $40 coat so we went back to tell the lady she replied no you were charged right , she didn't want to accept she under charged us. We then went to the customer service desk and they then told us it was OK it was a mistake and we didn't need to pay. So we donated $40 to a charity

I shop at both Woolworths and Coles. I much prefer Coles staff.
The Woolworths staff are too much 'by the book'.
Also I buy a lot of yogurt (same product from Coles and Woolworths, Many times the yogurt from Woolworths is 'OFF'. Somewhere in the delivery chain, the Woolworths yogurt is allowed to sit at room temperature (or in the sun)
I have decided to only buy yogurt from Coles.

I worked for woolies in the bakery department. Originally my hours were 5am to 10am Monday thru to Thursday.. They decided they needed more workers on Friday so I was approached to work Friday (which did not suit me at all) so I jokingly said can I start at 3am (that way I was finished by 8am) They said of course you can and that's what I did. Loved those extra early days got so much more done before the store opened and when my offsider arrived at 5am we were usually starting on the 2nd round of breads...rolls. Etc. New ruing came in they didn't want anyone starting before 5am except the bakers so I said ok so long as I can go back to Monday through o Thursday I even sai the didn't need to pay me the penalty rates for starting before 5am but noooooo. (starting at 3am was fridays deal) they said no. So I thought long and hard I wasn't happy so I put in my resignation letter. The manager approached me asking if I really wanted to resign I said yes I was happy doing the 3am to 8am it worked for me. He then turned around and said to me that the were plenty of Indians and Asians willing to work any hours he asked. I held my tongue...I know now I should have gone to someone further up he chain and spoke to them....I left
