Woolworths, Coles, and IGA conduct massive recall on a number of confectionery products due to potential salmonella contamination

A range of Elite branded confectionery products - including cakes, chocolate, biscuits and lollies - have been urgently recalled from Woolworths, Coles and IGA stores across the country due to potential salmonella contamination.
Food Standards Australia issued the recall notice on Wednesday, urging consumers to return the affected products to the store for a full refund.
The products being recalled are as follows:
- Elite Chocolate
- Elite Cakes
- Elite Wafers
- Energy Grain Snacks
- Energy Chocolate Rice Cakes
- Gum and Toffee Candies
Elite Sweets Pty Ltd - the company behind the affected products - is conducting an investigation into the matter.

Salmonella is a type of bacteria that can cause severe food poisoning, with symptoms including diarrhoea, abdominal cramps and fever.
Anyone who has consumed the affected products and is experiencing these symptoms should seek medical advice.
Food Standards Australia also released a statement regarding the recall, writing: “The recall is due to potential microbial (Salmonella) contamination.”
“Food products contaminated with Salmonella may cause illness if consumed."
“Consumers should not eat this product. Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice and should return the products to the place of purchase for a full refund.”
