Woolworths asking for donations

Hope this is the correct place for this , not sure where else to put it.
I am truely over Woolworths asking for money at the check out. A few months ago it was buy a $2 ticket to put on the wall to say you contributed to Woolworths "FREE FRUIT FOR KIDS" So WE the public contribute the money for the fruit and Woolworths promote the fact THEY are giving free fruit to Kids. 😡

This morning I did some small amount of shopping at Woolworths ( try not to shop there any more) but was made to feel very uncomfortable at the checkout when the lady asked if I wanted to donate my $2.85 change to Select fund for Kids, not sure what the actual fund was as I couldn't understand her. When I said no thank you, I got the "look" of why not and was made to feel very uncomfortable in front of other shoppers. Woolworths make vast profits every year, we are aged pensioners on a limited budget. How about a fund to provide free product for aged pensioners !!!! Never hear of that do we. Sorry I just find this annoying when we are living in such a financially difficult time.

Each time i shop, I see a request to round up to the nearest dollar, on the pay page, for some charity. I never do, as I can't be guaranteed that the money does go to a charity

Yes that is a very good point and also one of our concerns.

Woolworths make a lot of Profit off us shoppers everyday.....let them donate to these appeals, so many are struggling enough as it is already, and we are paying through the nose for everything at Woolworths as well.

It annoys me because then they advertise that they have donated to the charity and it really is their customers.

Ive never been asked to donate at the woolies checkout . Sometimes they have a sign or something up but the checkout chick (or rooster) has never asked me

You are lucky, I get asked regularly and even when I use a self service checkout I get asked.

Exactly and to make people feel uncomfortable for not donating is really awful. There was a chap in front of us, hardly bought anything and you could see he had very little money but still got asked to donate.

Yes that is exactly right. We try not to buy from the big supermarkets , we shop at the farmers markets and only buy things we cant get else where from the big 2

I fully support these ladies and their comments regarding
woolworths embarrassing hard sell at the cash out counters. AND the self service machines also ASK for the change to be donated.
I say NO because it is NOT a registeared charity or support agency.
I was a volunteer Treasurer for St. Vincent de Paul. and here are facts ...IGA donate collecteed funds to SVDP for thee needy with a cheque... Coles donate to SVF'P foodbank and are so much appreciated. Both food outlets are tranparent with their statements and assistance for the needy AND FOODBANK ..Woolworths claim to be donors and helping people particularly in dasaster areas but I never saw the results of them assisting, Ozharvest are huge donors of food given to them for charities
I may get my ass kicked for these comments but I say honesty is the best policcy and ask SDC to conceal my identity.... As I have probably one of the biggest wide open scams in Australia under target by me at the moment. It will come out in the wash when I am ready.

Thank you Vet 543. I rarely get angry I am just not that sort of person, but this has really got under my skin. Its the fact they make out they are supporting all these things especially free fruit for kids when it is in fact the customers who are paying for the fruit. We struggle to make ends meet as it is , and to now be harassed when we simply go to buy milk is getting beyond a joke. Coles and Aldi are another 10 minuets drive but after what happened at Woolworths I wont be going back. What ever you are involved in, just be careful 🤗 and I hope it all works out well for you.

I haven’t shopped at Coles in years, and only shop at Woolies if I really have to. They’re all the same owners. And it’s a disgrace what the top dog gets paid while everyone else does it hard.

People forget the Help the Farmers appeal when we all donated $1 for every 2 litre of milk to Australian farmers during the drought

Have one guess who didnt pass the money on and got caught ?
