Woolworths announces price drop on over 450 everyday essentials

As the cost of living continues to rise, many Australians are feeling the pinch.

That's why the latest announcement from Woolworths is such welcome news for shoppers looking to stretch their dollars further.

Starting this Wednesday, 28 August, Woolworths is implementing a significant price overhaul on essential items, with an average price drop of 23 per cent across a range of products.

This isn't just a handful of items; more than 450 products are set for price reductions. This includes a variety of fresh proteins and pantry staples, ensuring that your weekly shop can be both nutritious and budget-friendly.

Woolworths Chief Commercial Officer Paul Harker has acknowledged the need for value, stating, 'Our customers have told us they’re looking for value more than ever before. This spring, we have more than 450 products dropping in price to help them better manage their budgets.’

‘In addition to our seasonal campaign, we’re also introducing a range of products at a lower shelf price to provide customers with even more ways for their budget to go further for more sustained periods of time at Woolworths.’

‘We continue to work hard to provide customers with value when shopping with us,’ he added.

The price cuts are part of a seasonal campaign aimed at helping customers manage their budgets more effectively.

Meat lovers can rejoice as popular items such as Champagne Leg Ham Sliced From The Deli, Woolworths Beef Sizzle Schnitzel, and RSPCA Approved Chicken Wings are all getting price cuts.

For example, ham is now 15 per cent cheaper, down to $20/kg from $23.50/kg. Meanwhile, the Beef Sizzle Schnitzel is now $10 from $12, and the chicken wings were priced at $9, now available for $7. These reductions mean more roast dinners and hearty meals without the guilt of overspending.

But it's not just the meat section that's getting a makeover.

Pantry staples and snacks are also seeing reductions. Imagine enjoying your morning yoghurt, such as Dairy Farmers Thick & Creamy Blueberry Yoghurt, for just $1.70, down from $2.60. Or treating the grandkids to Peters Maxibon Vanilla Ice Cream at a new low price of $7 for a 4-pack, down from $10.50.

These price cuts are not just a temporary sale; they're set to last from 28 August to 26 November.

This gives you plenty of time to take advantage of the savings and perhaps even try new products.

In addition to these seasonal savings, Woolworths is introducing a red lower-shelf price sticker to help shoppers easily identify these more affordable options both in-store and online.

This initiative will continue year-round, with more than 50 items featuring this red sticker from Wednesday and even more to be added in September.

Items like Essentials Tuna, Woolworths Greek Yoghurt, and Essentials Sugar White are just a few examples of everyday products that will be more wallet-friendly.

For instance, the Essentials Tuna is now 5.7 per cent cheaper at $3.30, down from $3.50.

It’s not only Woolworths who made this huge step. Coles has also announced a significant price drop on everyday staples and winter essentials.

Shoppers can save up to 23 per cent on these products, an initiative to help families save money on their weekly shopping during challenging times. You can check the range of discounted essentials can be checked here.

I am hesitant to name names but I did my supermarket order online this morning. What usually costs me $200.00 plus or minus a couple of dollars, today cost me $226.00 even after a $20.00 voucher was deducted for an error in my previous order. That is a significant, no a sizeable increase so where is this 23% saving?

This is just a thought, with the huge profits being announced by Coles and Woolworths would there be a way to cap their profits which would result in cheaper groceries everyday. The suppliers would still get the same margins, it just limits the ridiculous profits made by the Supermarkets

What a brilliant way to surreptitiously bump up prices on the items that really matter - throw us an occasional red herring....and, what's happening with the 'Royal Commission' - Supermarkets, Banks and Politicians, 'triple treachery'!

I'll wait & see when I buy a few things this morning. As per usual, savings are usually on items you don't usually buy anyway.
