Woollen Blankets

Few things say 'home' quite like a woollen blanket on a cold night. Brands like Onkaparinga and Warrnambool were household favourites, known for their soft warmth, pastel hues, and satin-bound edges that lasted through many winters. They weren’t just blankets — they were part of the family’s comfort and care. Did you have one on your bed growing up? Tell us all about it here.

I still have a few Onkaparinga blankets and use them still to this day. One bought in the early eighties a rug for those cold nights and watching TV, two double bed blankets from 1980 that was on our bed until the mid nighties and now on a spare bed, and the two queen blankets we have on our bed. I have found by using a wool wash and mild softener our blankets have lasted. They are still nearly as good as new and still have a lot of life left in them (they should see us though I think). They do not make the same quality any more. Although initially expensive we have got our money from them and how long they have lasted. My grandparents and mother swore by Onkaparinga blankets, buying me my first blanket set. I think they were right.

I still have single and double wool blankets ( pure Mareena wool) made in Australia from late 60s and as good as the day I bought them . We made quality items in those days ,and thanks to Whitlam Chinese shit has flooded Australia since.

Mum had Onkaparinga blankets when we were young and were still going strong years later. My favourite was a pale pink blanket - sooo soft!

I still use my Onkaparinga bought in the 60s. I kept 2, and have given away several others during Winter Collections as my household dwindled to one.
