yep, I would use the staffed checkout every time if only there were enough open that I didn’t have to line up behind multiple other customers. My shopping time is always limited to in and out as quickly as possible. I never use a basket, always a small trolley if a small shop and take it with me to the car, then return to a trolley bay.

Is it so hard to do? No one is asking you to do more than walk a couple of steps. If you leave it on the floor and not under the scanning unit you could be the one that causes another person to trip over it and perhaps get hurt or worse. If that was reversed to have you fall you’d be suing the company, wouldn’t you? Get a life!

When using the fast, express, speedy, individual all by-myself checkouts I leave my basket on the shelf so that it is easier to reach for the very polite staff at Woolies to whisk it away before you have removed your grocery packages (they are so quick). I gave up trying to put my basket in the designated basket holder as it is usually sneaked away into a corner somewhere out of sight which means that one has to navigate through the incoming loaded customers who just want to get to your checkout and give you a black look on your way back to pick up your parcels. A slightly silly system so I rely on the wonderful Woolies staff to look after me. Also, it is quite difficult when you also have to use a walking stick as I do.

I have no problem putting baskets where they should go. I do have one small issue with the concept.
Rarely do I go through self serve checkouts. It's too awkward with a mobility aid at my feet.
On the rare occasions I use a Woolies basket, I have found that there is no designated space to put them at a serviced checkout. It's a case of do your best and see what happens.
I get why staff are put out by the situation where there are baskets lying around everywhere. Hey Woolies, think about people like me and check your layout designs.

Our Woolies has a basket holder in the middle of the exit from the self serve so no problem there, and when going through a serviced queue the assistant always removes the basket from the belt and stacks it his/her side. Maybe our Woolies is just better organised than most.

Exactly, I always use a checkout with a real person, I don't work for the store so why should I do the self checkout, people are so easily led to use self-checkout, and it cost's jobs. Stop it.

I don't work for any supermarket so definitely not going to do my own check-out. If I do this I am depriving someone of a job & unemployment is high enough as it is. From my observation it is no quicker to do your own check-out than go through a serviced check-out. Plus, when I go shopping I use a large trolley, not a basket so that becomes a further problem with those areas. And the time it takes me to pack my bags while doing my own check-out keeps others waiting for longer periods. The girls/guys at the check-out have the hooks ready to hang your bag so they pack it quickly.
