Brisbane shopper Emilia had her forearm temporarily tattooed with what seems to be an authentic barcode — which even features the words "Made in Australia" underneath it.

After receiving the tattoo, the shopper went through the checkout of the Woolworths Kelvin Grove Metro store in Brisbane.

Emilia said in her video: “So I got this tattoo barcode.”

“So I decided to do this.”

The clip showed Emilia and a friend laughing at the self-serve register as they attempted to scan her tattoo.

After several attempts, the register finally beeped saying: "Invalid. Staff assistance."

The clip generated attention from TikTok users, with many expressing their amusement from the experiment.

One TikTok user wrote: “You should get your Everyday Rewards card tattooed."

“That beep!” added another.

One TikTok user even revealed that it's becoming a norm among tattoo enthusiasts to get a "ridiculous" grocery item tattooed permanently on their skin.

One TikTok user asked: “Is it actually what you wanted though?”

“Because some artists are so sick of doing barcode tattoos that they make it so it scans for something ridiculous,” the user continued.

Emilia replied: “Ha ha, I had no idea! I got that for fun but you made me want to!”
