Woolies shopper annoyed by ‘misleading’ detail on chicken buy

Woolworths has announced a change to a popular chicken product’s label after a customer complained about a “misleading” detail.

Woolies shopper Sooz aired out her frustration on Facebook after purchasing Woolworths’ Slow Cooked Chicken Thigh Cutlets with Japanese Citrus Dressing.

She noticed the label on the chicken stated that the 600g pack included “four serves”. However, when she opened the packet, she found only three chicken thigh cutlets inside.

“Packaging says four serves - um no,” she wrote on the Facebook post.

“See pic - getting ready to feed four tonight. That’s OK - I’ll just have a boiled egg with my veggies.”

She called the packaging “misleading” and added: “Who in reality is going to split up cutlets?”

Sooz’s post gained attention on social media, and many fellow shoppers shared their opinions.

Some didn’t see a problem with the chicken product’s packaging, saying that the amount of serves is usually based on weight.

One person shared their experience, saying: “I buy their southern fried thigh cutlets. Sometimes you get two, sometimes three. It goes on weight.”

“Says four serves, not feeds four,” said another user, while a third person added: “Can’t all be winners.”

But another shopper agreed with Sooz, saying: “The photo on the pack looks like there’s a fourth piece.”

“If they were chicken breasts it’s easier to cut them up for four people. Three chicken thighs though… not so simple and a lot less meat. Three pieces are not a serving for four people!”

Since the incident, a spokesperson for Woolworths has confirmed that the company made the decision to change the serving size information from “four serves” to “two serves”.

“We work hard to provide clear serving size recommendations to assist customers and we’re disappointed to have missed the mark on this occasion,” said the spokesperson.

“Following customer feedback, we’ll be updating the serving size label on this product to better align with our customer’s expectations.”

“Early next year, the serving recommendation will be updated to two serves per pack.”

It can be deceiving at times about serving sizes on packets. If based on weight then state what a serving size is.

I find myself constantly checking weight, number of items , previously noting of changing volume. Trusting a brand name, and if it is undercover I am very angry that they the shops, treating us like idiots thinking we will never think about their sizes.

but if the box is sealed and you cant see inside it and you think you are getting 4 peace's of chicken. That is only making people open the box to see how many peace's you will be having or weather you need to look for a better product

After purchasing this product numerous times, I have yet to find ANY skin on the thighs which would crisp up like the packaging photo.
Tasted great though!😋

I like this product but have been reluctant to buy it because I expect to get four thigh pieces but always only find three inside the packaging. Last night I selected the heaviest three packets that I could find and took them to the fruit and vegetable scales to weigh them. Surprisingly, I found that one of the packets was 100 grams heavier than the other two. If I am not going to receive the four servings as promised on the packaging, at least I can obtain the heaviest packet available ... 😜
