In his post, the shopper said that while the pack contained four pieces of lamb steak, one piece of meat seemed to be just a big blob of fat.

Phillip also noted that the defective piece was hidden under the label of the package.

“Gotta love that piece hiding under the label,” he wrote on his post.

One Facebook user jokingly said that the piece was "like 80% fat".

The post drew the attention of Woolworths, with the supermarket chain expressing their disappointment and extending their sincere apologies for the incident.

“We pride ourselves on providing high-quality meat cuts to our customers and we’re disappointed to see this,” A Woolworths spokesperson told 7News.

“If our customers are ever disappointed with the quality of our fresh meat, we encourage them to return it to their local store to receive a replacement or a refund.”

It is understood that the incident is an isolated case as labels on Woolworths products are applied by a machine.

Woolworths is currently investigating the incident and is working with its meat production partner to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Yes I had similar and returned to my local store at my convenience about 2 weeks later (I do online -pick up ) with only phone-photo proof…
Had absolutely no hassles !!!
Received full refund & another free similar product with lots of apologies…
Still happy & satisfy to shop at “Woolies” even if others supermarkets are available close by.

So you should have got a full refund with no questions asked. Absolutely appalling Woolworths!

There are several comments saying they have experienced the same... and yeah, taken it back and recieved apologies and refund/replacement.... but surely this is costing Woolies more money in the long-run .... its about time they revisited their butchering sites and told their workers to stop dropping in poorly cut scraps of fatty boney meat so people didn't have to go back to the shop a second time!!

Don't know why Woolworths sound surprised this happens with ALL of their lamb Forequarter chops - there is one chop underneath that is all fat and bone and no meat at all - this is not a one off and while they say just take it back for a full refund, with Covid a lot of people are not going into the shops and getting delivery which makes it very difficult to return for that so called "full refund". Why not just supply quality meat products - someone must see these chops or steaks that are of no use when it comes to feeding people - but Woolworths does get paid for them !

I find the best piece is always placed in front and the worst is always the last one seen. This has happened to me regularly. But the photo is the worst one I have seen.

When supermarket meat is over laped on a tray l never buy it, l bought bbq chops one time and the end chop on the tray was rubbish, fat and bone.. Meat overlapped 7th on trays in supermarkets l think where they are packed don't give a dam about bring customers back because people are shopping there every day.

How does one support your local butcher, when prices are often double those of the supermarkets, the little guy is making a fortune.
The little guy doesn't have multiple stores where they can lose money on some products but make it up on others. Supermarkets also pay a pittance to the farmers for fruit, veggies and meat, that is why the can sell at a lower price. When all the butchers are out of business watch the price of meat go up. Then there will be nowhere for the customer to go and the quality will go down as well. Buying a cheaper quality of meat from the butchers can be alright as you can make meat tender buy sprinkling Bi carb soda on the meat and this will make it tenderer

Have you looked on the large supermarkets shelves lately, next to zero chicken or beef, yet look at the local butchers display cabinets, full of overpriced products ---- price gouging at it's best.!! and not a new practice from the local butchers during this Covid period.
Using Bi-Carb is known as velveting - that is why the beef and chicken from the local Chinese shop is generally very tender.

No, this is definitely not a one-off. Every time I buy a 4-pack of lamb chops at Woolies, I have to check many packets to find 4 chops full of meat. They always hide the fatty one underneath. Thank goodness the packs are see-through.

For every person that goes back to complain there would be dozens too lazy or tired (or rich) to bother. Woollies wins. o_O

You get better meat from the butcher, that's why its more expensive. And the little guy has more overheads than the supermarkets, he is only breaking even in some cases.
