Woolies reveals process behind their popular FINGER BUNS – here’s how they do it!

Woolworths has finally opened the lid on how they make one of their most popular snacks in store – finger buns!
The iced finger buns at Woolies are bread buns that have a white or pink icing sugar glaze on top, and are considered an all-time Aussie favourite. They are beautifully soft and fluffy when freshly baked, and best enjoyed when coupled with a bit of butter or margarine and a warm cuppa on the side (in our opinion, anyway).

According to the Woolies staffer, the whole cooking process takes less than an hour to finish. Starting from scratch, the first thing that the baking staff do is to mix the dough for about five to six minutes.
Then after letting it rest for a good ten minutes, the dough gets moulded. This is where the bread buns get their “finger” shape.
“We then let it proof and rise with the self-raising yeast in it,” says Liam. After some time, the dough is now ready to be baked in the oven for about 20 minutes.
While the bread is cooking, the baking staff get working on what is probably most customers’ favourite part of the snack – the icing!
The icing at Woolies comes in two flavours: the pink icing has sprinkles and is sweeter than the white one, which tastes like coconut.
After the buns are finally finished baking, they are glazed and topped with icing as soon as they come out of the oven. “This bit is satisfying,” says Liam, showing how the staffers use a plastic frosting bag to slowly ice the freshly baked bread buns.
Then, they dip these iced bread buns onto a large tub of either sprinkles or coconut flakes.
And that is how Woolies make their famous finger buns! Now we’re craving them…
Since posting last week, Liam’s video has managed to gain over 450,000 views, with hundreds of users commenting and expressing their love for the tasty treat.
One fan of the finger buns wrote: “I love your finger buns; I get them every time I go to Woolies!”
Another commented how these finger buns ‘hit the spot’ every single time, especially as afternoon snacks. A third user loved these snacks so much they even joked that they are “gifts from god”.
And while many are raving about the bakery item, there are a few others that pointed out a minor shortcoming – the finger buns at Woolies seem like they never have enough icing for the whole bread.
Some users complained that even though they love the snack and they always buy it in-store, they find that it “needs more icing” every single time.
But hey, four large buns for only $3? It’s not such a bad deal, right?
Have you tried the finger buns at Woolies, folks? Do you enjoy them, or do you prefer them from your local bakery?
